Lockjaw's investigation method: "Those guys are making more money from the grift than I am! They must be doing bad things! I will talk to the ceiling! When it says I am right I will tell everyone, then all the suckered giving them money will give it to me!" AKA Greggy-poo is a jealous bitch.

I'd be curious to know whether this kind of internecine fighting just puts MORE people off of Christianity, or at least the evangelical brand. I can't imagine that it does the health of their congregations any good at all.

Joe King's avatar

To be fair, it does help identify the factions when the American Troubles start...

Fuck, that's depressing.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Boy, does that remind me! I had an installation in Derry, maybe six months after "The Troubles" there were more or less resolved. The people were GREAT, the Guinness was DELICIOUS, and no one cared whether I was a Catholic or a Protestant.

They cared more about JOBS, and oh, were they excited when Seagate built a fab there!

It's Tennessee. They love it and want more.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

Well, that might be true if they didn’t love his gossip and want to be true. I think that the weekly world news done went get itself a congregation.

As one of my very favorites observations goes, from the β€œwreckage of Agathon” by John Gardner: β€œwhat matters is not so much that which is true but that which is entertaining.”

David Graf's avatar

I'd like to think so but there are pundits and politicians who get bucks from riling people up and demonizing others. Why wouldn't there be preachers who'd do the same thing? Those attracted to that kind of stuff will join and support that church.

XJC's avatar

"Why did he never demand to see this evidence before he delivered a sermon insisting it was all true?"

No evidence Jeezy is his deity or capable of doing anything to affect life on planet earth or elsewhere. Since when is evidence something God wants?

oraxx's avatar

As offensive as preachers like Greg Locke are, they do not offend me half as much as do the people who delegate their thinking to them. They are the ones who enable these monsters and make them possible.

Good Christians(TM)

That's a good point. If they had half the brain cells they claim to have they wouldn't just "we forgive him lawd" hand waive it all away. All while they screamed and cried about Paul Pelosi's gay lover attack and pizzagate

β€œChief among them was a woman who presented what she described as detailed timelines, photographs, and firsthand accounts of alleged criminal activity. ... Believing these claims to be credible and urgent at the time, I spoke out boldly in that video.”

Of all the obvious lies in everything he’s ever said, this is the least believable. He believed a woman?!? About sexual assault?!? Even with detailed timelines, photographs, and firsthand accounts, women are rarely believed by men in power and b=never by religious men in power. Even if their power is as small as his.

Joan the Dork's avatar

The notion that literally any woman would open up to that walking red flag with its own mounted air raid siren about abuse at the hands of someone exactly like him is the single most unbelievable part of the story.

The 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 unbelievable part of the story, really.

JoyLynn's avatar

Isn't that the evangelical way? Blame the woman (Eve).

Lynn Veit's avatar

"Eve was weak! Say it!"

Brenda Oelbaum's avatar

But he wanted to believe so badly because she was talking shit about better grifters than himself, his competition. His jealousy knows no bounds...Isn't that a deadly sin? As I read this article it occurred to be that if Copeland needs to be tossed "under the jail" Locke needs to be buried in that same pit with him. The only difference in the two is Copeland is better at scamming his followers and he has more of them than Locke.

Jane in NC's avatar

"Locke says he did investigate all this, but β€œthe stories began to shift and unravel,” and he realized he was being used." IF we credit that any of this is true [big IF, healthy dose of salt], all it proves is the old adage that 'inside every grifter lives a mark.'

My gut reaction is that Locke was clout chasing and never had any evidence whatsoever.

The man is deeply disturbed. Religion'll do that to a person.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Need I say it? The whole religion is based on lies.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

We know that. We've known that for a considerable while. It's getting the rest of the world to know and recognize and be repulsed by that fact that is the real job.

Further Thought: Has it occurred to Locke or any other preacher of his ilk to keep HIS OWN HOUSE in order, rather than taking shots at the competition? Seems to me that the carpenter-turned-rabbi that they are so fond of had something to say about the speck in someone else's eye versus the log in their own.

Do you suppose they know that one?

John Smith's avatar

Nope, they cherry pick the verses that suit their POLITICAL AGENDA, the truth be dammed!

No, I didn't read the whole thing. I will at some point. But the blunt end of the stick is that this is such a common occurrence that it damned near becomes banal and tiresome.

Spare us the BS, Locke. Been there, done that.

OT

Not a drag queen.

"Christopher Scott Wilkinson is charged with accosting a child for immoral purposes and using a computer to commit a crime, among other counts.

Police say contact began April 27. Wilkinson allegedly sent graphic images of himself, requested illegal photos in return, and offered to bring alcohol and marijuana to a planned pickup.

β€œIt turned very sexual very fast, and it was clear that several crimes were being committed at the time,” Deputy Chief Robert Lafayette said.

On April 30, Wilkinson showed up to the arranged location and was arrested. A search of his car and home allegedly turned up marijuana, bondage s*xual items, and electronic devices.

Wilkinson’s ironically accused Bill Gates of being a β€œsatanic p*dopile” on his Facebook page without evidence and shared numerous AI-generated images of Jeffrey Epstein with Democratic figures. He also shared posts insinuating the Clintons are planning to kill Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell, pro-Trump memes, Christian iconography, racist posts calling Michelle Obama a man, and hundreds of posts from fake news pages of completely fabricated stories. The mention of Maxwell reminded me of how mildly surprised I am that she hasn't met with an "unfortunate accident" or "medical mishap" yet (another "suicide" would prolly be seen as too "convenient" by too many people).

She must have some platinum life insurance squirreled away somewhere that includes damning videos.
