The coming of the internet allowed people from all across the free-thought community to realize, often for the first time, they are not nearly as alone as they once thought. Unfortunately, it has also allowed religious and political extremists to do the same thing. I think it is one of the fundamental flaws within the human species that hate has a vastly larger audience than reason. I suspect it is something that severely limits our chances of long-term survival. If these extremist groups managed to execute all of the worlds gay people, they would simply move on to their next target. It's really about hate for its own sake.

It is not possible for them to execute all the world's gay people. They could come close, and while congratulating themselves find out that a significant number of infants born during their murder spree are gay. Criminalizing natural human variation is never going to work.

Right. As I've often said, it's not faith-based hate; it's hate-based faith.

Oh, sure, Paul did, but then Paul didn't even like marriage very much ("It is better to marry than to burn."). Anderson and his fellows, though, are pretty clearly determined to have someone to HATE, and to them, the LGBTQ+ community is fair game. He and the rest of them see us simply as targets.

Mr Zhong:

Ezekiel 16:49-50

[49] “ ‘Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. [50] They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

Where in this passage describing exactly why Sodom was destroyed does it mention that homosexuality was the sin for which they were condemned? If you really wanted to follow your bible, you would be calling for the death penalty for every Republican in Congress for their votes to cut SNAP benefits and cut Medicaid. Somehow, though, I don't think you care about that. You are so fucused on hating gay people that any verse that you can interpret to even suggest that homosexuality is a sin deserving of execution you will use.

If you really think that your God wants gay people dead, then why not just live your own life and let God do the executions?

Expand full comment
Dane B. McFadhen's avatar

Send him this Joe:

You're twisting the Bible to justify hate. Ezekiel 16:49–50 explicitly says Sodom was destroyed for arrogance, gluttony, and neglecting the poor — not homosexuality. If anything, it condemns people like you who ignore the needy while preaching moral superiority.

Genesis 19 isn't about consensual love — it's about attempted gang rape, a story of violence and inhospitality, not sexual orientation.

Yes, Leviticus says some harsh things — but unless you're also calling for the death of Sabbath-breakers, rebellious kids, and adulterers, you're cherry-picking out of bigotry, not belief.

If you really think God wants gay people dead, then leave it to your invisible and unproven God — and stop pretending your hate is holy.

"Because they attack children! They’re coming after your children!"

I'm afraid you've confused the LGBTQA+ community with the RCC. If there's a group of people in the world who are notorious for protecting child predators, the RCC is it; we have evidence to show that. The LGBTQA+ folks mostly just mind their own business and go about their day the majority of the time and kids are commonly far safer with them.

Perhaps less shouting and name-calling would have made it apparent some time ago that the real goal here is punching down, not addressing a problem.

Hate, despite, detachment from reality, fear, anger, tribalism, ignorance, traumatic childhood experiences, paranoia, culture war mentality, Toxic religion, stupidity, bad parenting and, I am absolutely certain, a lot of irretrievably poisoned people with very, very dark issues.

Their own dark issues are what prevent them from seeing what they are, because their own dark issues are exactly what they are.

There’s money and power in it. They can offer themselves absolution for their own dark issues. No God is necessary.

"We love the Lord Jesus Christ."

LGBTQs are Christians, too. Your bible has something to say about loving your god and hating your fellow believers at the same time:

"If someone says, "I love God," but hates a fellow believer, that person is a liar; for if we don't love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?"

-- 1 John 4:20

Your dear Lord Jesus Christ never said a word against gay people, Falco. In fact, the only mention of the subject came when Jesus did a long-distance heal of a Roman Centurion's "pais" (Greek for "young male lover"). Jesus never questioned the relationship (if he's God then he knows). He just did the magic wigglewag.

They were beaten with electrical cords, dragged by their ear or hair across the room and much more. They went to church on hot summer Sundays in long sleeved tops to hide bruised arms. They were all tortured till one admitted being the guilty one in some misdemeanor. Stevie throws chairs at his fragrant wife and shouts streams of obscenities at them. I'd always thought Anderson's public persona of hate speech and homophobia must mean he was far from all sweetness and light at home. I was correct.
