The GQP is a party of racist, pedophile knuckledraggers and proud ignoramuses, so while still shocking it is unsurprising.

oraxx's avatar

Every hate group in this country came out in support of Donald Trump and that support is as strong as it ever was.

As a reminder to mr Ogles, the following statement is part of a law of the Unites States.

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Mussulmen"

Pmo's avatar

In the GOP, ignorance is bliss.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Good grief, Agnes! The Repubs are saying the quiet part out loud again, aren't they? They're scared of Muslims, probably scared of Jews, almost CERTAINLY scared of atheists. What's next? Scared of dishpan hands???

The real hell of it is, more than likely, little Andy Ogles has never MET a Muslim. Any bets?

Die Anyway's avatar

I'm kinda wondering what Andy ogles? Little boys in the gym? Little girls at the pool?

Joan the Dork's avatar

We don't have Republicans saying the quiet part out loud anymore. We only have a bare handful of Republicans who still remember to 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 say the loud part quietly.

Randy's avatar

I won't take that bet. Sadly, I suspect you're right.

Just reissue this comment under his name: "Christians don't belong in American society."

And... "the choice between dogs and Christians is not a difficult one.”

Let him cry that he was misquoted.

oraxx's avatar

There has never been a time in my life, and I’m nearly 80, when the Republican party didn’t have one group or another they were blaming for all the country’s problems. There is always somebody they want to get rid of.

Boreal's avatar

When you have no accomplishments that help your fellow citizens, you need scapegoats to blame.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Trump is now blaming both Obama and Biden for the war in Iran that he started.

Tinker's avatar

He blew up the deal that Obama made because "we didn't get anything for it". In reality, I think he blew up the deal because Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize for it. All he had to do to win the Peace prize was to make a better deal. How frustrating for him that Iran then started to act as if there was no longer a deal in place and thumbed there noses as the toddler-king. He blames Biden because Biden wasn't able to make a deal with Iran either because the previous president blew up the deal that Obama made.

Die Anyway's avatar

I can't imagine any country (friend or foe) making a deal with the U.S. and counting on it to last. One of the many, many ways Trump has fucked us over for generations to come.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Yep. The deal had Obama’s name on it so the toddler had to destroy it

Not only is hatred not a disqualifier for Republicans, it is a requirement. It would not surpise me if a majority of sitting NSGOP congresscritters agree with Ogles. And I bet they would add Hindus, Buddhists, and the LGBTQ community. We already know they hate brown people. The only reason they haven't outright tried to declare Christianity as the official religion is because they need to keep Netanyahu happy.

Joan the Dork's avatar

I honestly rather doubt Bibi would care, as long as the arms shipments kept coming and everything else remained status quo. It'd cause much unease in the Israeli population, who don't like him any more than we like our bloodthirsty authoritarian asswipe, but Bibi? Nah.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

As it comes to the LGBTQ+ community, I have to wonder what has become of Log Cabin Republicans ... or have they become an endangered species?

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Further Thought: Ogles' statement is a product of the bubble culture he has likely lived his entire life in. Christians to the left of him, Christians to the right of him, Christians in front and behind him, and about as much diversity as one could keep in a Lilliputian thimble. The Christian culture is all he knows, and all he knows about Jews or Muslims or Hindus or Buddhists he probably got from the pulpit, and none of that was good or positive.

I'll never forget one my daughter's first reactions when she came home from her first year at Elon University. She had met kids much like Andy: culturally isolated, had never met anyone outside of their in-group. She never said what their reaction was, but it makes me wonder how the adaptation process went. And I think it's worthy of note that THIS is the breeding ground for the kinds of supporters Trump thrives on.

And I see it as a serious problem for the US.

LEE FOSTER's avatar

Andy Ogles should be censured, even impeached and removed from office. His views are abhorrent, racist, and disgusting- unbecoming to the role of congressman.in fact, if anyone has no place in America, it would be Andy Ogles and his racist followers. Such statements are unAmerican.

Die Anyway's avatar

Aye, but he's an excellent representative. His constituents sent him to Washington to say exactly that. If he said something different, he wouldn't be representing their views.

Tinker's avatar

You are correct, he should be. There should be some kind of rule that a congressman is required to represent everyone in his district, whether they voted for him or not.

Someone tried to blow up our Muslim mayor the other day. It’s all hate filled propaganda for the war machine. Christian Nationalists are putting all of our lives in danger.

I see pictures like that and all I can think is "what the fuck is wrong with you people?"

Boreal's avatar

Andy sure seems to be trying to compensate for something.

That would be humorous since he acts like he's 100% penis.

What should be obvious to everyone is that Trump's walking around (well, sitting around) without a functioning brain.

It is how they feel about Atheists and Agnostics. But because we don't believe in their fever dreams, we are the ones who are subhuman. There doesn't appear to be any downside to bigotry, hatred, paranoid craziness, etc. anymore

Linda's avatar

Folks, I believe we haven’t lived in a democracy for quite some time now (if ever). This hit me sadly during COVID because time slowed down and I had a chance to think. We aren’t mourning its possible collapse so much as the aftermath of it. The theocratic authoritarians have now taken over and no politicians are coming to save us. We have to focus on our communities and keep our neighbors safe.

Linda's avatar

And of course we need to get authentic grassroots folks into positions of power at every local level.

Sherry Casteel's avatar

As someone who lives in TN, I'm sorry on my behalf and for their inexcusable hate speech. I'm furious that he and other Republicans spew this hatred and boost their feelings of entitlement that come along with it. It does allow everyone to see what these politicians are in our state and others. I believe we should call on groups like Indivisible to hold them accountable now, not in midterms. We don't have the luxury of time on our side right now.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

I’m not going to say anything here that I haven’t said a few thousand times before. As a gay man, I’ve been watching the Republican Party devolve from the party of Eisenhower to the party of goldwater to the party of Ronald Reagan. That was a fairly gentle slope of degradation. With the election of Reagan,, the slope of degradation increased dramatically and has evolved all the way to beneath the bottom of the swamp— what it is today. Hate and fear, corruption (moral and financial) and contempt seem to be what motivates it. So none of this is a surprise to me.

At the same time, I am highly disappointed in the Democratic Party, because it barely seems to stand up and be counted. Obama was for my marriage before he was against my marriage before he was for it again. Even my governor seems to have retreated from a stand against whatever the Republicans stand for. We have a billionaire running San Francisco. He seems to be a decent sort, but I have learned not to trust billionaires. They’re not my friends.

I don’t have an answer for this. If the Democrats are only willing to be not Republicans, then there isn’t much hope for this country ever recovering from its current malaise. The only good news is that I’m nearly 76 years old, and perhaps the world might last as long as I do.
