*sigh* I wish I could argue with you.

Better late than never, but I really have to hand it to men who only begin to see women as human beings once they have daughters. To this, a pat on the back. We have a long way to go. Happy International Women’s Day.

Linda's avatar

And International Women’s Day was yesterday. Boy that 24 hrs goes by fast.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

Especially when it lands on Daylight Savings Time. It’s giving earning 75 cents on the dollar vibes.

Len Koz's avatar

I'm pretty sure that's just a coincidence, not an intentional slight. Like when Easter fell on 4/20...though that coincidence just made the chocolate eggs more appreciated.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

I’m sure it is just how it landed, the date is set so the weekday it lands on will change, whereas Daylight Savings Time is always on a Sunday.

OT- let’s ditch this outdated system and stop moving the clock. It’s harmful and stupid.

Len Koz's avatar

Yeah, daylight savings time is like cutting a piece off one end of a rope and tying it onto the other end.

Joan the Dork's avatar

It's like a free dose of jet lag twice a year, minus all of the fun of actually traveling.

Runfastandwin's avatar

I dunno, we tried that in the 70s and it resulted in us all having to get up before dawn. I remember being in class before the sun came up...

Whitney's avatar

It would probably help if Central time weren't such a weirdly shaped and large slice of the country.

Straw's avatar

Agreed. It is just stupid and make all kinds of trouble.

larry parker's avatar

DST would be equivalent to 95.83 cents on the dollar. Women can't do math. : )

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

I said it gives vibes, not being precise in calculating the actual percentages.

Straw's avatar

I was going to write that it was yesterday. Here where I live we marched for 15 minutes and then we had a gathering with lots of stories and speaches and discussions before we ate lunch at the community hall.

SPW's avatar

It was but a blink in the day.

Marie -José Renaud's avatar

Happy International Women's Day to you too. Linda!

“Georgia is now—finally—on the verge of passing a bill that would make it illegal for clergy members to sexually assault people under their authority.”

This is the problem with you atheists. You always want to substitute the state for God. Don’t you know that God is going to punish all of these sexual abusers? How dare the state step in for God in this matter! and besides, these sexual abusers are moral men of God, and they don’t do this sort of thing. Well, they do, but Everybody sins. You must hate Christianity. And you must hate God. What about school teachers? what about them?

“Notice how he talks about rampant sex abuse “including even in our Churches” as if outside sinners have infiltrated their world. Yes, even in our churches! It’s not like the Catholic abuse scandal is 1000 years old at the very least. And it’s not like that they have spent decades blaming drag queens, gay men, and now transgender people with loud cries in a great voice of ‘Squirrel! Squirrel! THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE YOU NEED TO LOOK OUT FOR LOOK OVER THERE LOOK OVER THERE QUICK QUICK BEFORE THEY GET AWAY!”

From the point of view of this gay man, that is their second biggest sin right after the abuse itself. Conspiring and organizing to blame innocent people who are not committing the crimes for the crimes that the accusers are committing themselves.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Have to ask: WHAT TOOK THEM SO LONG?

According to the article, "several states" have such legislation (willing to bet Ohio isn't one of 'em), never mind the fact that something like "Gross Sexual Imposition" should already be on the books and damned well should apply. At least Georgia finally got there.

Now ... how vigorously are they going to ENFORCE it???

Marie -José Renaud's avatar

Hmm, VERY VIGOROUSLY OF COURSE! NO SEX PREDATOR SHALL ESCAPE THE LAW! If they make trouble, you'll be called to action! You shall make good on your name!

Troublesh00ter's avatar

I SHALL?!? Oh, goodie-goodie-goodie! [smirk-smirk ... GUFFAW!!! 🤣🤣🤣]

Psittacus Ebrius's avatar

They'll enforce it in their usual manner - remove the predator from the flock, get him into counseling, have him confess to "moral failures", then return him to a different flock. The cycle has no end in sight.

Boreal's avatar

The xtians who oppose these bills never can seem to answer the question why an allegedly omnipotent "god" does nothing while his followers rape children. Their one argument is "free will", which makes their imaginary fiend a worthless voyeur and do-nothing.

Maltnothops's avatar

A couple days ago I put that question to a Christian Post commenter: If you saw someone sexually abusing a child, would you try to stop the abuse. This was after an exchange about God seeing everything. Nada. Silence. Nothing.

Boreal's avatar

Says everything about their (lack of) morality, proving that having a god does not make one a good person.

John Smith's avatar

To paraphrase the HULK: “Goddamm, fucking puny, tiny dick god!”

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

But if we criminalize clergy for engaging sexual relationships with their congregation, how will the clergy find spouses? If the spouse is younger than the clergyman, that’s just a matter of preference, dontchaknow. If the girl’s parents approve, what’s the matter?

Maybe Georgia should also consider addressing their age of consent laws, keep old men from marrying little girls. Especially after the old men have gotten the girls in the family way.

I’m getting pretty pissed lately, trying to back off from the news but I can’t completely unplug and it is not helping. Staring down losing my voting rights, working rights, bodily autonomy, financial freedom, and overall safety really makes one livid.

Easy to assemble, blade is extra sharp for those tough ugly orange skunk ape necks. Quickly removes heads from the neck in trouble free motion, and effortlessly to clean with just a garden hose. If you act now, we will throw in for free a pole spike to mount the scumbag severed heads on. Plus, you will get free delivery at no extra charge. I even got a passport *just to make sure* I could vote in Florida. It was a long process.

Now, just the other day, I read that Florida just passed yet another law re: voter ID. Apparently now, if your driver license doesn't display your citizenship status, it's not valid for voter ID.

My license is only a few weeks old, and already, I have to have it replaced if I want to vote. Another trip to the DMV. A lady at the elections office said my license was "fine" and that the new requirement wouldn't affect me, but what if some poll worker, afraid of being fined,

thinks otherwise?

Tomorrow's agenda: Drop the cat off at the vet, get a new license at the DMV.

I once considered canceling my credit card, but now I am afraid I would be denied a new one should the need arise, things being what they are.

I also keep my bank accounts in Minnesota and Georgia (where I lived at different times in the last 20 years) active along with my Florida bank account. Just in case one or more states decide to put restrictions on women having bank accounts.

And even though I mostly would rather not be getting old, I am relieved that I am at least well past menopause. If I were a young woman who was pregnant, or had to constantly worry about becoming pregnant, I would be terrified.

Maltnothops's avatar

If you were a young woman, I’d advise against the sort of sex that might result in pregnancy.

"Georgia is now—finally—on the verge of passing a bill that would make it illegal for clergy members to sexually assault people under their authority."

The fact that this statement could be written in the year 2026 is a sad indictment of the state of humanity. It should be self evident that clergy members sexually assaulting people under their authority need to be held accountable under the legal system. It is long overdue.

Anyway, Yay Georgia?

The pope thinks the art is blasphemy but not the wars fought in Jesus’ name? Way to lose the plot there Leo. Maybe if you don’t like the art that depicts your religion this way, stop supporting the violent regimes with Jesus in their mouths. But you won’t do that since your religion is all about getting and holding power at any cost, it has always been violent and always supported the violent regimes.

Len Koz's avatar

Some idiot remarked that "Francis didn't criticize this, Bergoglio did", like because he changed his name when he became pope he became a new person. How fucking stupid can you be?

Lynn Veit's avatar

Well, since we're dealing with kkkristers here....

John Smith's avatar

We know what side the Repubelicans are on. We are just unsure about how far they’re willing to go. Well, strike that, we know exactly how far they’re willing to go, hello Jeffery, Jeffrey Epstein please pick up the black curtesy phone… in hell. Sorry, got off track there. We just don’t know who they’re willing to protect, there might be some backlash in the next month and the legislature might actually show their yellow stripes.

We do know that the Repubelicans are not all that interested in protecting women and children from predators. Our entire society is built on misogyny, exploiting women’s labor and the objectification of children. So I’m wondering what is the impetus for this legislation now?

Joan the Dork's avatar

The only reason a Republican would want to protect anyone from a predator, in the current state of that fucking party, is because they don't want the 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

avis piscivorus's avatar

Trusting clergy members to have some spiritual authority over you or your children, is the first mistake.
