No private school, especially private religious schools, should ever get a cent of public money for any reason. Money given to private schools is money taken away from public schools. Never the less, Republicans remain convinced it’s okay if they use the power of government to backstop Christianity.

Republicans have been working towards eliminating public schools altogether for decades now. Coupled with their weakening of child labor laws and union protections, one would think that their goal is an uneducated and heavily indoctrinated public who are easily controlled and will slave away for a pittance from a young age. Almost like they want the worst of the industrial revolution. Sounds a bit fascist to me.

The creation of a permanent American underclass is the age-old Republican dream.

When it looks like a wolf and barf like a wolf, then it might be a wolf. The R's have no trouble funding religious societies, so why don't they fund those taking away childrens rights.

Bulletproof glass? Safety officers? Why would xtians need those? Won't their god protect them? Shows a distict lack of faith.

oraxx's avatar

Why do they install lightning rods on churches? ;)

NOGODZ20's avatar

Hoo boy, were some xtians pissed off about THAT. They mewled that science had somehow robbed their god of its power. :)

NOGODZ20's avatar

This article simply demonstrates the absolute uselessness of prayer by xtians to get what they need.

If you're worried about school shootings, maybe you should pass some sane gun regulation, instead of paying for more security. You know, barn door, cow, etc.

some additional points:

private schools are able to select their students while public schools serve all.

How many Catholic schools are in inner city neighborhoods?

Do Catholic schools serve special needs students?

Of course, Catholic schools are allowed to discriminate as much as they want against LGBTQ families.

of course, evangelical schools will be next.

A Catholic church in our neighborhood is displaying a sign celebrating "250 Years of Faith and Freedom." They have forgotten that Catholics have traditionally regarded as barely Christian by many of the evangelicals promoting Christian Nationalism

Trying to sort out who was, or was not, a TRUE Christian has spilled a river of blood.

The corrupt SCOTUS Catholics sure do seem to be pulling a lot of strings around here. Don’t be fooled. They have all the power, money, and land (and the largest well funded pedo ring). The Evangelicals are their puppets.

What is not being said is that apparently, religion isn’t teaching anyone to be better people, nor is protecting religious institutions.

So, their morality doesn’t make the schools better or safer. Their prayers are not h]going to stop violence or save lives.

The only thing that will fix their problems is tax payer money.

They want the population that is unable to afford private schools ignorant. And those that can afford to be their puppets

No! Why should my money be spent on the catholic school system in Miami/Dade? My granddaughter is in private school in Florida because the republicans have ruined the public schools. But the state isn't helping us pay for it.

* Will somebody tell me why an institution that is notorious for child sexual abuse still gets taxpayer $$$?

* Why do they still get the dollars yet continue to discriminate? If a public school discriminated against xtian students, what would be the reaction by those very xtians?

Joe King's avatar

Why they are getting tax $? Christian Fucking Privilege.

What would be the reaction to discrimination against Christian students? Torches and pitchforks. We have already seen how they react when Christian students in public schools are forced to be equal.

Another cashgrab by a religion whose figurehead decried exorbitant amounts of money and how those who had more than their fair share just might not see the pearly gates.

Sinanju06's avatar

Surely other religious-based schools, such as ones based on Islam, can receive some tax dolllars right? Right?

Time for TST to open a school.

So why wasn't the funding larger and given to all the schools in the state? Hell, why wasn't it applied to all the schools in the region? Unconstitutional Christian Fucking Privilege.

If I were a freethinker in Miami-Dade county, I would be very disturbed at what I've read here. The Freedom From Religion Foundation has this money pegged as being completely inappropriate and in violation of The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment.

I would expect the court challenge on this issue and very, very soon.
