No, Joey. Being born an evangelical is impossible. Religion is a choice. Homosexuality is inborn.

oraxx's avatar

All religion, evangelical Christianity or otherwise, is learned behavior.

My response to ignoramuses like this guy is always the same, 'when did you decide to be heterosexual?'

Peter R's avatar

So, you’re not much of a Calvinist, I gather? I remember reading an old attack on Calvin’s “interesting”perspective, as follows:

You can and you can’t;

You will and you won’t;

You’re damned if you do;

You’re damned if you don’t.

If that type of an arrangement doesn’t sound very fair to you, too bad. That problem is (literally) your own damn fault.

NOGODZ20's avatar

As my nym implies, I'm not much of a religious fellow at all. :D

Peter R's avatar

Yes I did notice that. 😁 At the age of 72, my relationship with religion remains as it’s always been: “problematic.”

Your knowledge is enormous. What did someone call you a wee while ago? 'Nogodzpedia'?

That was our beloved Black Hole and DM mourner who coined that.

Egads, how I miss her.

Pretty sure your republican colleagues don't think your god is black.

I regularly speak with Aslan. Doesn’t everyone?

Michael's avatar

The article does mention male lions humping male lions. Are you suggesting Aslan does this?

Claudia's avatar

Made me laugh! Thank you.

Glad you enjoyed it. :)

I am reminded of the whiptail lizard in New Mexico that is most definitely born gay, since they are all female and reproduce by parthenogenesis.

Yet there you are.

Although with race being a pernicious cultural construction, maybe it's true. No doubt we have varying amounts of melanin, but we're not born defined with a race until someone labels us.

Richard S. Russell's avatar

They tell me I was born into the human race, but I was a little slow off the starting line.

Carlos's avatar

Given all the discrimination and physical violence that continue to happen against our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters, who in their right mind CHOOSE to be gay? It's not a choice, you backwards Neanderthal!

Alverant's avatar

Everyone is born ignorant. Some people practice it to get better.

larry parker's avatar

Let me see if I got this straight. Before the Roman Empire some people were born gay, but after the Roman Empire sexual orientation became a choice?

Totally not batshit <eye roll>.

Also, I guess he's never seen the picture of two male lions getting on Noah's Arc.

Claudia's avatar

I was thinking of the picture of the two (male!) lions walking into the Arc when I read the article .... clearly great minds think alike!

Greetings to you, I hope you're having a good day.

Footlocker? WTF autocorrect. And amusingly enough, autocorrect suggested I love Moorcock from a single discussion on Michael Moorcock a long time ago. Because who doesn't love Moorcock.

"he’s incapable of getting good information on topics that would matter to his own constituents. He’s too intellectually lazy and morally bankrupt to know better."

That's the definition of being a Republican these days.

Religious people have an amazing talent for declaring what ever they believe to be the truth. No one believes anything because it’s true, but because it’s what they want to be true. Truth does not require belief. Rod Joseph is just one more fool who appears to have convinced himself his religiosity is something that qualifies, or even entitles him, for public office. I can only hope the people of his district see him for the fool he is.

"Most of the people, they're victims of abuse at the very young age."

Just not by LGBTQs. Those who do suffer sexual abuse at a young age are victims of straight, often married Christians. Especially that evangelical crowd.

Joe King's avatar

And abuse does not make people gay. I would trust a gay man around children far more than a homophobic youth pastor.

Claudia's avatar

As we discuss with considerable frequency, there are way more sexual predators among the fervently religious than among the LBTGQ people.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Lovely. Yet another Republican, talking about something he clearly knows NOTHING about, nor does he show any signs of being willing to LEARN about the topic of gender and gender preference because god / religion / faith. This brand of purposeful ignorance should be called out, not just by Hemant, but by the people around him who (I would sincerely hope!) know better. And if they don't, his opponent in the upcoming election should challenge him in a debate or other suchlike forum.

If Joseph is intent on representing his constituents, a significant portion of which are part of the LGBTQ+ community, he better be prepared to understand them far better than he currently does.

Philosopher Bertrand Russell once observed that “the whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.”

Bensnewlogin's avatar

So jo-jo’s name is ROD. Tee-hee. That’s probably where all of this is coming from, that and his “faith”. These people are so tiresome, yet strangely so adept at speaking out of both sides of their mealy mouths. We are all due human dignity and respect, but not so much dignity and respect that you’re ever going to bother to learn anything about the subject.

You want gay giraffes. That isn’t a question. Of course you want gay giraffes. They’re so gay that they get their own movies: https://www.facebook.com/ScientificMr/posts/male-giraffes-do-engage-in-same-sex-sexual-and-courtship-behaviors-quite-frequen/1527531502073473/

People cannot be born gay? Honey, I knew I was gay when I was three or four years old. I just didn’t know what it was, but I sure knew it involved other boys. Other boys who were naked.

Do you know that people can be born stupid? They can be so stupid that that they will believe that yet another sky God had a half human child who was born of a virgin, announced by choirs of angels for being just that, and 30 minutes later, everyone forgets about it for 30 years, after which time he dies, his resurrected, and comes back, which he has yet to do. But on the other hand, you have proved one part of your Bible: there are talking jackasses.

Do you know what you can’t be born as? Christian. It’s only an accident of birth— your parents were Christian— otherwise you would’ve been born as whatever it is dumb as rocks people were born as. Perhaps acolytes of the lizard God.

Even the Mormons and the Catholics know that people are born gay. It just makes their tiny clenched assholes clench even more to accept it. But they do.

It looks like we’re going to have to do Anita Bryant again and again and again and again.

Zizzer-Zazzer-Zuzz's avatar

I believe I have posted before that giraffe heterosexual activity almost seem accidental.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

Probably simply because the boys were out having a drink, and you gotta do something.
