These right wing preachers never pass up an opportunity to demonstrate the disconnect between religion and morality. Jesus, if he existed, was totally 'woke', and yet somehow these fools keep trying to shoehorn their religiosity into a construct made of Republican talking points. Woke, is an ill-defined term, but as near as I can tell being woke is anytime a person exhibits signs of human decency.

Jane in NC's avatar

If Jesus was around today, he'd probably be on tour with Bernie and AOC.

Joan the Dork's avatar

He'd have already been shipped off to El Salvador, what with the not speaking English and the being too brown for President Bumblefuck's liking.

Richard S. Russell's avatar

Jesus has a totally undeserved good rep.

I’ve long been astonished that Christians can claim with a straight face that, yes, the Yahweh of the Old Testament was a petty, vengeful, murderous jerk, but that everything was set right by Jesus (according to the fanfic of his most devoted followers, known as the New Testament). But that’s got it exactly backwards.

Sure, if you did something that pïssed off the easily irritated Yahweh, he’d smite you where you stood, plus your family and half the innocent bystanders in the surrounding county as collateral damage. But that was it. Dead. Done. Finito. Period. Game Over. Sayonara. Hasta la vista. It wasn’t until Jesus came along that they invented the concept of “No no no, my friend, we’re gonna fry your sorry äss FOREVER! And not just for the actions you actually performed but for some of those naughty little THOTS you’ve been having!”

Think about it. Which of these 2 arrogant, flaming sadists was actually worse?

Sean's avatar

True, but even that unearned rep is still better than christians are today.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Their actions speak so loudly, I can't hear what they're saying! 🤔

dammitbarry's avatar

Actually, jesus is just another cosmic terrorist promising eternal pain if you do not do as it demands.

Woke, as I understand it, has it's roots in the black community. It refers to a person - I think usually white - that has "woken" up to the reality of systemic racism. The term is has been sullied and muddied by the right because, well, they are racists and don't believe in systemic racism since America is the land of the free, everyone is equal in all things, and poverty is a choice (republicans: "Have you tried not being poor?"). To them the word is just another synonym for communist, at least that's what one of them said to me when I asked him what he thought it meant. You know, 'cause there just isn't enough ways to say communist.

Wookiee Monster's avatar

Wow. Usually it takes an arrest for kid touching to bring one of these assholes down.

ericc's avatar

Both this and that are judged the same: you get thrown out when your antics cost the organization reputation, income and influence. I'm guessing that if he had sock puppeted to trash liberal politicians instead of conservative preachers in his organization, we would never have even heard of it because the church folks who found out about it wouldn't have said anything. Heck, we don't know that he *didn't* do this - maybe the list /= all of his sock puppets, just the ones they object to.

RegularJoe's avatar

And even then they're far too often given a pass once they claim some invisible magical critter has forgiven them.

Unfortunately, she is very unlikely to leave. Indoctrination is one hell of a drug.

BL Foster's avatar

I know. Been there, done that, and I did leave. It’s a challenge.

OwossoHarpist's avatar

This guy who rails against social justice is likely a white supremacist, just like the other guy with an unrealistically built boat in Kentucky.

Joe King's avatar

He did claim that the SBC had become too liberal by claiming that "critical race theory" had infiltrated evangelical churches. I mean, when the SBC makes a half-assed apology for being over the top racist in the past on MLK day, that's CRT, right?

Dude's a racist POS, full stop.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

I suspect that, in the final analysis, a WHOLE LOT of preachers like Buice turn out to be White Supremacists, never mind Christian Nationalists. All that's missing is the extended right arm salute.

It’s scary how many are - and don’t even try to hide their real identity (said she from inside the ranks).

And I hope I don't have to say this twice.

John L's avatar

Remember, he rhymes with LICE!

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Which is why I didn't use that. I already had a good slice!

Die Anyway's avatar

So Buice and Juice don't rhyme? English is so weird.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

True ... but I got inspired by Hemant's notation that Buice's name rhymes with "ice," and I ran with it!

NOGODZ20's avatar

Your god hates deceit, liars and lying, Pastor Lice. Who says? Your own bible. Might want to sit down and actually read the book you like to push on others, even if it means tearing yourself away from Mein Kampf.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

And yet he lied to his own creation, telling Adam and Eve that they would die if they ate from the tree of knowledge.

Yahweh has zero credibility. 😝

Authoritarianism is all about believing that among other things you are the only one blessed with right opinion. These churches are composed of an authoritarian-in-chief, various sub-authoritarians, and the paying customers. They have no interest in 'the common good' and recently have become successful enough to almost have obliterated it. And, they perform these acts in the name of a savior who many of them think is too woke.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Authoritarianism is also about thinking that you have the right to superimpose your right opinion on everyone else, regardless of whether they agree with you or can posit arguments against your position.

Welcome to dictatorship.

Stephen Brady's avatar

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Pre-CISE-ly. And for "politically apathetic," read: "damned near any governmental official with an (R) next to his name."

Jane in NC's avatar

Lemme get this straight,: the church 'leadership' didn't care when he was shit talking and shit posting about everybody else, but they got big mad when they found out he was doing the same to them. Is that about right? Kinda raises the question 'Who would Jesus shit post about', eh? And also, 'Would their Jesus recognize ANY of these people as his own?'

What happened to 'turn the other cheek'? "Do good to those who hurt you"? 'Love your neighbor as yourself'? And let's not get started on 'help the poor', 'care for the sick', 'welcome the immigrant.' Theobros is absolutely the right term for these thin-skinned, colossal hypocrites.

“(Partridge now says Buice’s punishments are the result of “cancel culture.”)”

These guys are masterminding entire social media blitzes under numerous anonymous sock puppets to undermine each other all the while blaming “radical leftists” cancelling everyone they like. Like, I constantly see right wingers complaining about cancel culture and it’s always, always pointed at the left, so much that the left even buys the lies about the left being cancel culture. But whenever I see a real example of anyone actually being canceled, it’s a right wing group or individual attacking someone on the left. It’s almost like the right coordinated to create this cancel controversy to remove whatever teeth the left has for criticizing anyone. Pretending the left has this purity test to belong, when it’s always been the right making shit up while also being the purists. Seriously, Buice is leaving the Southern Baptist Convention because they aren’t pure enough for his taste, but it’s the left that’s too snooty for imperfect people.

ericc's avatar

Lay on the bed you made, pastor. You wanted an independent church not beholden to SBC to select it's leadership or participate in selecting a pastor...you got it.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Partridge must not be aware of the bloody history and practices of his religion. It pioneered cancel culture.

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

Whenever someone states that the "left" created cancel culture, I respond:

*cue Mr. Rogers impersonation*

Can you say "excommunication?" Can you say "shunning?"

Conservatives created cancel culture.
