I have two grand children who are older than this fool, and they’re both better educated. People get sucked down the right wing rabbit hole and surround themselves with like minded people. It leaves them convinced the whole world agrees with them.
The existence of people like MacCormack is largely the result of the trend that started in the Republican party when they quit being interested in substance and wanted to focus more on appearance, sizzle instead of steak. That trend reached a peak with the advent of Donald Trump, of course. What is astonishing is that at least one segment of the GOP has decided NOT to tolerate the clear bigotry represented by someone like Jadon.
This story is frankly stunning. It is also exceptionally important, in that at least one state Republican party has chosen to challenge and work against a candidate who is so obviously bigoted and biased that, to use the phrase of a favorite fictional doctor of mine, "A blind man could see it with a cane." Jadon MacCormack clearly had no problem saying the quiet part out loud, likely thinking that, since Trump does much the same thing virtually all the time, that he had the same right. And he does. It's just that in THIS case, he ran into consequences from his own party.
I thank the Connecticut Republican Party for stepping up and dealing with MacCormack and the clear problem he represents. One state down, 49 to go.
I am all in favour of young people being involved in politics, but maybe they should be able to offer something a bit more than just homeschool garbage!
This isn't just homeschool garbage. Scratch MacCormack deep enough and it wouldn't surprise me to find a Dominionist underneath, who would gladly erase the 19th Amendment, right after he overthrew Obergefell v Hodges.
The man is clearly a dangerous reactionary, and I'm glad he got nipped in the bud.
Of course his campaign was entirely online. Imagine him actually speaking to the public in a live event. It would have been a well-deserved catastrophe for him.

They really are cowards, and while I may be shrinking as I age, I lived some 60 years as 6 feet tall, and I carry both a metal cane and a bag containing heavy books.
Most of us (and all of us here) are brave enough to wish to live in a world of universal justice and equality. MAGA wants to cheat every step of the way.
On the contrary, something like 95% of it always was, and always will be.
As Oraxx says, this is a classic case of conservatives scapegoating a minority for their problems. And by classic, I mean they've been repeatably doing it for decades, if not centuries. Jews, blacks, gays....Italians and Irish...GOP policy outcomes are never the fault of GOP policies.
At this point, I would argue that Mr. MacCormack is a reflection of exactly who and what the Republican party has become. He checks so many of their boxes (bigot, vote denial, etc.) it's like he was made to order for the party as it currently stands. While the party as a whole might find the guy a problem because he's in their way, the bottom line is he's still completely representative of their platforms and positions.
And honestly? The Republican party pretending he's some sort of outlier is what's really strange here.

I just heard that when you lash out and respond to anger, your amygdala gets stronger. But if you control your anger and don’t lash out you strengthen your prefrontal cortex. These people are raised by folks who have very little EQ and likely have Popeye like amygdalas so they never learn to control their emotions and reactions. Folks who learn to think before acting can continue to control their anger, they’re smarter and less susceptible to manipulation. The right takes advantage of this, whether they’re aware of it or not, and trigger their base’s amygdala to keep them stupid and malleable. It is partly genetic I’m sure, but also environmental.

We lived about 8 miles outside of totality in 2024. We've been living in rural NW Ohio, so we took a drove 8 miles south plus a little so we were definitely in the totality area. It was awesome! There were maybe 30 plus people there, parked aside the road near a farm. It was really cool!
I've had vaccines and I've had metal objects stick to my skin. I didn't realize the relationship. I thought it was the Super Glue I was using to repair the item. The two parts stuck to my skin way better than they stuck to each other.
