Although this fool is more extreme than most, I can’t remember a time when Republicans weren’t blaming all the country’s problems on one group or another. I have two grand children who are older than this fool, and they’re both better educated. People get sucked down the right wing rabbit hole and surround themselves with like minded people. It leaves them convinced the whole world agrees with them.
The existence of people like MacCormack is largely the result of the trend that started in the Republican party when they quit being interested in substance and wanted to focus more on appearance, sizzle instead of steak. That trend reached a peak with the advent of Donald Trump, of course. What is astonishing is that at least one segment of the GOP has decided NOT to tolerate the clear bigotry represented by someone like Jadon.
This story is frankly stunning. It is also exceptionally important, in that at least one state Republican party has chosen to challenge and work against a candidate who is so obviously bigoted and biased that, to use the phrase of a favorite fictional doctor of mine, "A blind man could see it with a cane." Jadon MacCormack clearly had no problem saying the quiet part out loud, likely thinking that, since Trump does much the same thing virtually all the time, that he had the same right. And he does. It's just that in THIS case, he ran into consequences from his own party.
I thank the Connecticut Republican Party for stepping up and dealing with MacCormack and the clear problem he represents. One state down, 49 to go.
I am all in favour of young people being involved in politics, but maybe they should be able to offer something a bit more than just homeschool garbage!
This isn't just homeschool garbage. Scratch MacCormack deep enough and it wouldn't surprise me to find a Dominionist underneath, who would gladly erase the 19th Amendment, right after he overthrew Obergefell v Hodges.
The man is clearly a dangerous reactionary, and I'm glad he got nipped in the bud.
Of course his campaign was entirely online. Imagine him actually speaking to the public in a live event. It would have been a well-deserved catastrophe for him.
Edit: They also tend to be scared little children who cannot deal with reality as it is and want to retrogress to what they perceive as a safer time. In MacCormack's case, that might well be all the way back to his mother's uterus!
Something I've learned in my decade of wearing progressive messages daily....
Single individuals are rarely a danger (but it only takes once.) I'm far more cautious around groups of white men (here in the deep south.) They really are cowards, and while I may be shrinking as I age, I lived some 60 years as 6 feet tall, and I carry both a metal cane and a bag containing heavy books.
Most of us (and all of us here) are brave enough to wish to live in a world of universal justice and equality. MAGA wants to cheat every step of the way.
This is a gross stereotype and I know it but….there seem to be a few archetype looks for these RWNJs. There’s the pasty white face look like this guy has in the first photo. Ryan Walters also has it. Josh Hawley. And there’s the scruffy beard look like this guy has in the rest of the photos and JD Vance also sports.
I know I'm seeing what I want to see and this is logically fallacious. But has anyone else noticed?
I think it’s about signaling their membership in the group, much like the Mar-A-Lago face the women sport, or the men in Trump’s cabinet all dropping their extremely expensive designers shoes for Trumps crappy cheap Florisheim shoes. It’s a sacrifice for conformity and submission.
I thought it might be close to how teenagers clique up and dress in black to be goth or in woven ponchos to be potheads or whatever, but it isn’t that. It’s so much more sinister.
“he was never going to earn much support because there’s nothing in his platform to make anyone’s lives better…”
That’s never stopped a Republican (or “centrist” democrats) before. I mean, c’mon, the tangerine turd ran only on bigotry and hate, only ever promising policies in two months and never following through. Republicans have been running states and the federal government into the ground, speaking only on the culture wars.
I am so tired of the party of paranoid authoritarians. As I've said often enough, I think these are genetic personality traits and I'm not sure there is any solution for them, but they are a damnably destabilizing force in society. RWNJ talibangelical christianity is a perfect fit for them...
I've had vaccines and I've had metal objects stick to my skin. I didn't realize the relationship. I thought it was the Super Glue I was using to repair the item. The two parts stuck to my skin way better than they stuck to each other.
It's good to see a New England state stand against the bigotry and hatred that permeates the MAGA republican party. People who have no motivations other than those don't belong in government.
To me, this is a sign that at least PART of the Republican party has something of a backbone left. What needs to happen now is for MORE of the GOP to be so encouraged.
And finding that backbone will be necessary if their party is going to survive the age of Trump.
I don't even understand the point of the penalty box. The first thing I do is scroll to the bottom to see if there are any hidden comments so that I can read them. Which of course I can do because they're not really hidden. And having read them, I can't see much difference between them and comments that didn't get hidden. Pointless really.
The fact he was part of them says a lot. They're just dumping him to save face. I'm willing to bet behind closed doors, they agree with 80% of what he's saying.
The guy sounds very closet casey to me. He probably wants to smoke the flesh pipe or got rejected by a hot transgender woman, so is lashing out to cover for himself.
I read through Tony Emelio's statement accepting the Republican nomination. He sounds like a nice, reasonable guy. But.... there's an R by his name that tells me he's going to support the Republican anti-science agenda, Christian Nationalism agenda, anti-LGBTQ agenda, and all of the other mean, nasty, unkind, harmful plans that the Republican Party stands for. Maybe he's not so nice after all. Or if he is, maybe he should consider switching parties.

That trend needs to be ENCOURAGED.

Bigots are cowards.
"Bigots are cowards."

Again, we may be looking at a physiological cause for a psychological attitude. This needs and I mean NEEDS to be STUDIED!!!
“he was never going to earn much support because there’s nothing in his platform to make anyone’s lives better…”

Those traits may indeed be neuro-physiological in origin, and THAT whole possibility needs one hell of a lot more study, IMHO!
I think it is caused by vaccines. Yeah, that's it.... vaccines. And surgical masks.
Maybe it was the eclipse. Oh no, wait - that was only yesterday.
Don't forget the one in 2024. Shoot, I was smack-dab in the middle of THAT one! [explains a LOT, don't it! 😉😁]
Nah, vaccines just cause metal objects to stick to your skin.
I've had vaccines and I've had metal objects stick to my skin. I didn't realize the relationship. I thought it was the Super Glue I was using to repair the item. The two parts stuck to my skin way better than they stuck to each other.
And SOCIAL DISTANCING!!! 😱😱😱
It's good to see a New England state stand against the bigotry and hatred that permeates the MAGA republican party. People who have no motivations other than those don't belong in government.
And, in AL or LA or TN he likely would get elected.
To me, this is a sign that at least PART of the Republican party has something of a backbone left. What needs to happen now is for MORE of the GOP to be so encouraged.

"Why do all these Nazis keep running for office and voting for my party? It's a mystery."
My first post and already in the penalty box.

I upvoted it before it got yanked.
Thanks.
Hope I didn't jinx you. :)
Nope. The nannybot is a fickle bitch.
I upvoted it. It seems so capricious! BTW I love your forests.

He’s so deep in the closet, Aslan is waiting at the other end.
Aslan, the White Witch ... AND Mr. Tumnus!
He has a timeshare with Mr. Tumnus.
Yet another anti-LGBTQIA+ closet case. I see a sex scandal coming.
AND another closet case ... DEEP in the closet, I'd say.
Always the ones that doth protest too much.
It always makes me wonder how they can hate themselves so much. Male, bully indoctrination.
Right there next to Mike Johnson.
As y’all probably know already, I’m gay.
My gaydar didn’t just get an echo from this guy: it got a hook echo, with a debris ball going up 30,000 feet!
What a twat!

OT
No Joe King this morning. He's always bright and early each day. Hope it's nothing bad.
