The hell of it is, there aren't a lot of people who aren't in one group or another, and even if not, all of us can't avoid be being involved in at least one:
There are a lot of folks who are part of many groups all at once. Disabled, LGBTQ, non-Christian, female, veterans of color exist, but they are just political statements and not worthy of acknowledgment. Just the white, cis-het, Christian men are default humans, everyone else is a political statement interfering in the business of the state (because these men have no agenda they’re just what is normal).
And Lauren Boebert and the female members of the Colorado Springs City Council are men, too? Not having a go at you, but too often men are called out for stupid racism and other revolting behaviours but women doing/saying the same thing are given a pass. It took women to put nightmares like Boebert, etc. into office. So know your enemy...
I’m not saying that Republican or racist women aren’t bigots, it’s just that they only are acknowledged because they carry water for white, cis-het, Christian men. Their beliefs support my statement that the white men are the default and say things like women should be grateful the people don’t just abort us and such. Women need to stay home with the kids, women are responsible for their rapes, feminists are ruining the world , and other such nonsense. Just because there are women in leadership roles within the bigoted world doesn’t mean they are considered people by the white men, they are just tolerated.
But you are correct that the women who prop up the white supremacist patriarchy are just as bigoted and deserve to be called out for it. It’s just their pick me nature won’t save them either.
And I'm sorry that there are going to be cuts to the VA by MAGA. I guess their motto is do what I say, NOT what I do. Typical response. Or projecting what THEY'RE doing (which has nothing to do with protecting children around the country, etc.) like with redistricting, which the GOP has been working at for years. Dems need to stop being fricken doormats, dude. I'm over it.
I get what you're saying here, but allow me a moment of knee-jerk response:
Vets are in no way 'suckers', 'losers', or whatever other idiocy is currently being spewed by a political moron du jour, and I personally take issue with that claim. These people are some of the best humanity has to offer, and those suggesting otherwise can instead go fight their own wars... personally.
(Sorry, I have disabled vets in my family, and love them dearly. I got a bit grumpy, since I very well know where that attitude you're repeating came from. Thank you for your service, RegularJoe, I appreciate it even if certain other people don't.)
Sorry, my comment was tongue-in-cheek. I know what I and countless others went through, go through, etc. I greatly appreciate those who sincerely appreciate what we did and do, and have no problem shaming those who throw shade at us or toss meaningless perfunctory performative "thank you for your service" and vote for Trumpublican scum.
All of the above. The religious reich nutters on the city council think that those things should be the exclusive purview of Christianity, and only implemented once everyone is required by law to be conservative Christians.
It should be remembered that Colorado Springs is pretty much ground zero for the religious right, so it should come as no surprise the city council would take this action. James Dobson's operation, among others, is based there. At the end of the day, they have no problem mixing religion and government, just as long as it's their religion calling the shots.
I had the honor of knowing the late Dr. Eli Chesen who wrote a book titled, “Religion Can Be Hazardous To Your Health.” It dealt with his experiences as a psychiatric resident dealing with traumatized women who had just returned from a week-long revival meeting. He told me the proudest and most frightening day of his life was when Dobson devoted an entire program to attacking him. Chesen also wrote the book John Dean used to prep David Frost for the Nixon interviews.
I tried reading one of his books many years ago because I didn't know what a demented nut case he was at the time. I soon realized a man who couldn't go more than a couple pages without citing the Old Testament to justify his arguments, was someone not worth listening to.
I went to the the doctor yesterday for a regular checkup. When I checked in, they said something like "OK, youre here for your Medicare checkup". This was my first visit after turning 65, and I didn't know there was a specific name for it. But, whatever, they can call it what they want. When they called my name, a nurse led me to an examining room, and did the usual stuff, blood pressure etc. Then she said that part of my Medicare checkup, they would do a cognitive check. Okay.
Nurse: I'm going to give you three words, then ask you three questions, and after you answer, tell me the three words I told you.
Me: Okay.
Nurse: The three words are red, apple, and tree.
Me: Red. Apple. Tree.
Nurse: That's right. What day of the week is today?
Me: Tuesday.
Nurse: What month is it?
Me: June.
Nurse: What year is it?
Me: 2025.
Nurse: What were the tree words I asked you to remember?
Me: Red. Apple. Tree.
Nurse: Okay. Doctor wil be in shortly.
After she left, I realized that this was the test that tRump was bragging about like he's a fucking Super Genius, that he aced it like nobody had ever seen before, the doctor, a big strong doctor with tears in his eyes, said "Sir, your the smartest and most cognitive person I've ever seen."
Doctor friend was having a tough day but, she said, it got better when she did a cognitive test with an elderly patient. She asked her to spell 'world ' backwards and immediately the woman replied, 'delrihw'
I had fun a few years ago in an operating room. I was having some minor surgery on my neck. Protocol includes asking the patient what procedure you’re there for. When asked, I briskly replied that I was having my right knee replaced. There was a brief stunned silence and then the OR staff burst out laughing. The nurse said, “pretty funny but I do need a correct answer.”
That is funny! I remember being carefully asked "Which hip is it?" multiple times for each of my two hip replacements (2000 and 2012). They *really* don't want to screw that up! In both cases, the nurses marked the correct side with what looked like a Magic Marker.
As you excoriated Satanic Colorado, and the statement they provided to the Pike's Peak Pride parade organizers, you claimed that it was divisive, offensive , and unacceptable for their statement promoting benevolence, empathy, and equality. You even declared the phrase "Hail Satan" to be a provocation. That is not a good look for you. It is almost as if you are opposed to benevolence, empathy, and equality, at least when promoted by someone that is not a recognized representative of a Christian sect. In the United States, we still have religious freedom thanks to the First Amendment. Last I checked, Colorado Springs was still part of the United States.
You said: 𝑊𝑒 𝑑𝑜 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑝𝑎𝑛𝑑𝑒𝑟. 𝑊𝑒 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑑. Wrong. Your unfounded attack on a group with the word "Satanic" in their name for that fact alone is pandering to conservative Christian voters. To deny that, you need to explain exactly what about this statement: "And next up, we have the [sic] Satanic Colorado, a non-theistic religious community operating throughout the state, promoting benevolence and empathy among all people, advocating for justice, equality, and working toward a world where all can live freely and authentically." is divisive. What about it is offensive. What about it is provocative. What about it is unacceptable. And your explanation should not include any language suggesting Christian values, even if you do not use the word "Christian".
As has been stated elsewhere, what Ms. Crow-Iverson choked on were those LAST TWO WORDS, of course. "Hail Satan" might as well be equivalent to "Fuck Jesus" or something at least as detestable (to them!), and that's on top of the fact that Crow-Iverson and her ilk still think of themselves as all but OWNING the United States, at least from a religious point of view. Their tolerance of other mainstream religions is likely minimal at best, and something like The Satanic Temple or Satanic Colorado is so far off the reservation, they would never consider it, even if it didn't have their J-guy's supposed enemy right up front.
She might want to research what a 1st Century Palestinian Jew in the Middle East really looked like. I have a sneaking hunch it would put her right off her dinner.
[This kind of message does not represent the values of Colorado Springs or the respectful expression of any legitimate cause.]
Why not?
Satan probably isn't real. If there is a being that was a satan as described in the Old Testament, that being is nothing like the being you imagine. The OT satans were angels, servants of Yahweh. They were cynical about humanity. They carried out God's judgment against individuals. They reported directly to God.
So either Satan doesn't exist (more likely) or he's a part of God's retinue carrying out God's will.
Either way, nothing is going to happen.
They could hail Satan and praise him all day and ask him to smite the squares and nothing will ever happen.
Well, I suppose unless Yahweh exists and He wants Satan to smite the humorless, dour, self-important assholes... which... I wouldn't mind...
And if they DO exist, they're the not-quite-laziest bastards reality ever saw. I say they're second-laziest because it's pretty clear that Yahweh has them all beat so badly that the distance between first and second place could be measured in light-years!
It's almost like right-wing ears are completely stopped up until they hear the words 'Hail Satan!!' But even if Satanic Colorado was a group which believed in and promoted worship of Satan, so what? Religious freedom and free exercise are protected by the First Amendment, and it doesn't matter who's 'offended' by that.
Those of us in the atheist/agnostic/none community put up with 'being offended' by the christian majority every day of our lives. We don't use our positions of authority to shut them up unless they cross a constitutional line. I'd suggest it's time for a satanist to run for Colorado Springs City Council. Hail Satan!
"Veterans Day parade will get nothing this year. The festival of lights will get nothing… But that celebration got $60,000, and it was a 50% increase."
Look at Donelson using his so called love for Veterans as a tool to beat up other minority groups while simultaneously not providing funding to the veterans. Veterans are only brought up by the right to take away rights of others, never to actually care for the veterans. We are people. We are people who have complicated needs that are caused by our service and all we get are hollow thanks and used as props to promote hate and undermine the very rights we ostensibly served to protect. I don’t need more parades, I don’t need strangers interrupting my day to say “thank you for your service”, I don’t need another veteran’s month that no one will notice anyway until someone else they don’t like gets one, I don’t need any of that. Especially when my veteran father is losing access to his healthcare, my brothers in arms are losing access to suicide prevention, retirement we earned and other promised benefits, all residents losing their first amendment freedoms and the constitution is being pissed on.
Don’t thank me if you voted for MAGA anything. It’s hollow and false. If you are upset that the veterans parade didn’t get funding, then fund it, it is in your power to fund it you’re the one holding it up. But don’t blame the LGBTQ parade for defunding it, all they did was request their own funding. No one said you must take that money from the veterans parade. You’re just using the veterans as an excuse to excuse to bully the LGBTQ community and that sucks for veterans and LGBTQ people. We know you don’t actually care about our needs.
Ugh, I’m ranting. I am so sick of this, this is what is divisive. Putting one group against the other. Fuck all the way off with that shit.
One of Joni Ernst's staffers thanked my for my service. I asked her what that means, she sputtered and fussed....and I reminded her that her boss - ostensibly a combat Veteran - voted *against* the PACT Act.
Call them on their shit, publicly whenever possible. 🫡
They haven't considered your health and well-being either. Throwing money at bloated billionaires is more important than ANYTHING related to you or any of their other constituents. They have made it abundantly clear that you do not matter, so treat them and their precious fee-fees accordingly.
“In short, Donelson supports free speech unless anyone says something he doesn’t like, in which case he believes they should be punished.”
There you have it, my friends. Need I say more? This is truly the essence of the article and clearly illuminates the hypocrisy we are forced to witness.
Coming soon? Our dear leader is completely entrenched already in this thinking.
There’s rumors that folks crossing the Canadian border are being asked if they support Trump and turned away for the wrong answer. There’s verified incidents of people being detained and deported for having anti-Trump views expressed on social media. There’s no more waiting for the dictatorship. It’s here in technicolor.
"“The recent incident at a Pride event in our city — where an individual gave a public shout-out to Satan — was not only offensive, but completely unacceptable."
"Veterans Day parade will get nothing this year. The festival of lights will get nothing… But that celebration got $60,000, and it was a 50% increase."
So fund those things as well. Duh. These are, no doubt, the same manner of moron who says we should take care of our homeless Vets before we help "illegals" then do nothing to assist homeless Vets.
Which would disqualify ANY KIND OF PARADE which engaged in "identity-based or political gestures." How stupid is that? [Answer: pretty damned stupid!] Once again, we have a bunch of people (who, if I recall the general population of Colorado Springs, leans pretty hard to the RIGHT) who cannot deal with a belief system other than their own, never mind recoiling in horror to the call of "Hail Satan!" as though someone had just molested a child. These people think of themselves as adults, yet when confronted with the boogieman of their childhood, react as children.
I'd say it was beyond belief, but these days ... [sigh] ... not so much.
These "offended" churchlings are as triggered as the perpetually angry Trumplings. Just like Trumplings can be angry even in the midst of joy (I once witnessed a Trumpling screaming in anger upon winning $700 in a scratch-off ticket at a convenience store - "I should've won even more, years ago!," she yelled). Similarly, churchlings will scour the farthest reaches of imagination in their perpetual search for something to bitch about.
"In short, Donelson supports free speech unless anyone says something he doesn't like, in which case he believes they should be punished."
What would Donelson have to say about the following...
"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman Church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of. My own mind is my own church. All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit."
-- Thomas Paine, from "The Age of Reason"
Paine sounds like he could be speaking about today. If Donelson have lived back then, would he have gone after Paine? He'd have to come after me as well, because I side with Paine.
No longer want to "engage in identity-based or political gestures"? Really? So no more St. Patrick's Day parades, then?
So many snowflakes in Colorado in June.
Veterans are an identity, too. 🫡
The hell of it is, there aren't a lot of people who aren't in one group or another, and even if not, all of us can't avoid be being involved in at least one:

Just AI parades from now on, I guess. But wait…
Only Terminators.
I was trying to opt out, but, Satan wouldn’t let me.
Yup. CS City Council didn't think that through.
I hope they get a lot of hate mail.
They’re Republicans. Thinking is forbidden.
And disabled folks! Plus disabled Veterans, which get a gigantic kudos and thank you for your service!
Unless they happen to be part of a ceremony at the White House Rose Garden. "No one wants to see that".
Yeah, we effin' cripples are best out of view, silent, preferably interred. At least by Trumpublican standards.
They love to break people by throwing them in a senseless war. But they NEVER want to help them afterward.
"Born in the USA" indeed.
And I'm sorry that there are going to be cuts to the VA by MAGA. I guess their motto is do what I say, NOT what I do. Typical response. We disabled Vets are "suckers" and "losers", so ......
And it's all because trumpolini got sent away to military school for being uncontrollable. So he hates all things military.

Really, most are cornered in the Colorado Springs area, where the megachurches are.
Most of Colorado is pretty cool.
Wasn't really going after the whole state. Just those wonderful Christian folks in Colorado Springs. :)
How did something like Lauren Boebert get elected?
Her current district (4) and former district (3) have more cows than people.
Colorado is one of the best states for human rights.
I've made snow snow cones in July in Colorado.
I hope the huskies were not involved.
No yellow snow. What we had to look out for was red snow (some kind of bacteria).
Or religious affectation parades?
𝐵𝑢𝑡 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑜𝑖𝑛𝑡, 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑐ℎ 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑔𝑟𝑜𝑢𝑝 𝑑𝑒𝑠𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑝𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑤𝑎𝑠 “𝑜𝑓𝑓𝑒𝑛𝑠𝑖𝑣𝑒”? 𝑊𝑎𝑠 𝑖𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑎𝑟𝑡 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑆𝑎𝑡𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑠 “𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑚𝑜𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑏𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑒𝑚𝑝𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑦”? 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑑𝑣𝑜𝑐𝑎𝑐𝑦 𝑓𝑜𝑟 “𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑒, 𝑒𝑞𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑡𝑦, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡𝑜𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑑 𝑎 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑙𝑦 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑢𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦”?
All of the above. The religious reich nutters on the city council think that those things should be the exclusive purview of Christianity, and only implemented once everyone is required by law to be conservative Christians.
They didn't hear any of that, Joe. The only words that registered with them were 'Hail Satan!!'
Be interesting to see how this Council reacts when they start hearing Hail Trump.
👆🎯
It should be remembered that Colorado Springs is pretty much ground zero for the religious right, so it should come as no surprise the city council would take this action. James Dobson's operation, among others, is based there. At the end of the day, they have no problem mixing religion and government, just as long as it's their religion calling the shots.
James Dobson, the man who famously advised fathers to take their sons into the shower with them so they won't turn out gay.
And people are worried about PRIDE festivals/marches?
Local babbletist church claimed wearing short pants makes boys Gay.
Local Catholic Church clergy would say “We’ll be glad to take those boys off of your hands.”
SO gay. (Wait until they find out about our Top Secret Gay Agenda 😭😂.)
Youth ministers prefer “skorts,” for accessibility.

Seriously? Wow.
Never a fan of Dobson, refused to waste my time reading anything he said so I didn't get that memo.
But yes, Colorado Springs Christians, you're right, it's PRIDE that's causing all the problems and it has to go. Crow-Iverson hath decreed it.
I tried reading one of his books many years ago because I didn't know what a demented nut case he was at the time. I soon realized a man who couldn't go more than a couple pages without citing the Old Testament to justify his arguments, was someone not worth listening to.
I am sure the same doubtson would be horrified by public baths and saunas.
Edit : For years, DM and me had to work together to give Rhapsodie her quarterly shower. That must be why I am not bi, pan or a lesbian 🙄
And yet they praise ancient Rome as the pinnacle of civilization.
I wish they could experiment ancient Rome toilets 😁
I would pay to see the expressions on their faces!
According to Puritans, naked is dirty! They are still around and the RWNJ Outrage Machine is a lineal descendent of public shaming.
Gee, weren’t Adam and Eve naked at first? God created them that way. Did the Puritans actually question their god’s wisdom?
Oh crap, now I gotta do a James Dobson deep dive.
Watch out- diving into pools 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 shallow could lead to brain damage.
Won’t be hard. Here’s a bit of info. It even leads off with the penis in the shower thing

I would say you are as smart as him but I wouldn't want to insult you 🤣
Only the Vile Orange Cretin is dumb enough to think that passing such a kindergarten-level test makes him a fucking genius.
Randy Rainbow did a fantastic job skewering the Very Stable Genius, a video I watched over and over because it never failed to make me laugh.

Yeah, they did something similar to me back when I turned 65, about 8 yrs ago. They must think we all suddenly turn into morons on our 65th birthdays.
“ Sir, your the smartest and most cognitive person I've ever seen."
Surely Trump said cognitivest.

I hinted as much in my earlier comment. I fully expect my email to go straight to the deleted items folder without so much as a thought.
People like Crow-Iverson don't want feedback. They want reinforcement.
Just like their cult leader.

Fuck Jesus? I bet she'd like to.
She might want to research what a 1st Century Palestinian Jew in the Middle East really looked like. I have a sneaking hunch it would put her right off her dinner.
And what clothes he wore.
She will have to get in line behind his wives, catholic nuns.
After two thousand years, I bet he's got a 𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘴 case of blue balls.
ALL FUCK jesus
They'll have to get in line behind Crow-Iverson.
Seems like it is a waste of time and effort to be incensed about a reference to yet another undetectable part of christian mythology.

B-b-b-but they have a yellow ribbon on their SUV!

One of Joni Ernst's staffers thanked my for my service. I asked her what that means, she sputtered and fussed....and I reminded her that her boss - ostensibly a combat Veteran - voted *against* the PACT Act.
Call them on their shit, publicly whenever possible. 🫡
Don't spare THEIR feelings, because they sure as hell haven't considered YOURS.
They haven't considered your health and well-being either. Throwing money at bloated billionaires is more important than ANYTHING related to you or any of their other constituents. They have made it abundantly clear that you do not matter, so treat them and their precious fee-fees accordingly.
As I said, if it's true he can show us proof with the budget discussion minutes and/or spreadsheets.
“In short, Donelson supports free speech unless anyone says something he doesn’t like, in which case he believes they should be punished.”
There you have it, my friends. Need I say more? This is truly the essence of the article and clearly illuminates the hypocrisy we are forced to witness.
Coming soon? Anti-blasphemy laws? I AM my own god. Say something against me, get arrested.
Oh, blow it out yer ass, Karen.
I found it completely “acceptable.” Free speech, how does it work?
They are tiresome aren't they? Exhausting even. Just reading about them makes me feel as if I am being drained of energy.
The fact that veterans are homeless in the U.S. is shameful. The fact that the government has done little to nothing to address this is mortifying.
Land of the free and home of the brave? Sure, Jan.
Biden was making significant gains in that area.

Councilwoman says they won't engage in identity-based or political gestures while engaging in identity-based AND political gestures.
Par for MAGAts.
They praise child molesters. They act for gawd Their god that has watched every child rape in history, and done NOTHING
Beat me to the thought. There were no other comments visible when I typed and posted. They only appeared after I posted.
GMTA, my friend!
Isn’t Colorado more of a “purple state?” Denver seems more progressive, but, is nearby Colorado Springs the oppo?
What would homicide detective Joe Kenda say? Cuz I believe in Joe.
Have you ever heard of James Dobson? Colorado Springs is the hometown of "Focus on the Family. Definitely not Denver or Boulder.
Bitchin' about Satan because she doesn't think she can get away with bitchin' about "𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘺𝘴!" yet.
Well, the Christian Nationalist can’t blame the Jews just yet, don’t want to appear as nazis when being a nazi.
Nailed it.
