These days, "pastor" means either child molester or child molester yet to be caught.

“This bill, if enacted, would criminalize Christianity itself.”

Oh, really?

It would require you to stop believing in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the dead? It would force you to renounce the apostle's creed? To declare that the incarnation was a lie? It would outlaw feeding the poor, clothing the naked, housing the homeless, or healing the sick?

No?

Oh... it would require you to respect other people that you view as non-human or lesser than your white Christian selves...

Oh, yes, yes, such persecution. Bless your hearts.

oraxx's avatar

If you want to see what genuine persecution looks like . . . hand power to the preachers.

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

It would criminalise his faith the same way the sadly defunct Roe vs Wade would force him to have an abortion.

Old Man Shadow's avatar

I studied and trained to be a pastor.

But you are correct in the sense that knowing what I know, I have a sense of humility and do not speak dogmatically nor do I have tolerance for those that do.

One of the messages of the Law, the Prophets, and Christ is how we love others showd one's love for God.

You may, of course, disagree and fight very strongly to be a miserable, angry bigot, but the decent people among humanity will continue to fight that hatred.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

“…you were fearfully and wonderfully made as a man in the image by the one true God of the universe who loves you, and He does not make mistakes.”

Why is fearfully in there? What does God have to fear? If God doesn’t make mistakes, wouldn’t He also not be fearful? And if he was fearful, would that not open up an opportunity to make a mistake?

And can’t we look at trans people being made intentionally transgender? Maybe he didn’t make a mistake, and Brianna was born with male genitalia but is indeed not male. Trans people existing and God being perfect are not mutually exclusive if you aren’t out to make other people suffer for fun and profit.

Anyway, God is not real, trans people are and they deserve basic human rights, decency, and respect. His is not an excuse to be shitty to other people or lie about legislation.

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

". . . He does not make mistakes.”

The Flood™ proves he does.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Right there in Genesis 6:6. YHVH regrets making humans. An admission of a mistake made.

Babel showed a god terrified of united humans speaking a single language and how they could accomplish anything.

So naturally, he divided and conquered them by giving them all different languages.

Joan the Dork's avatar

He made the core of the planet out of the one metal he's weak against, then made his showpiece creation's blood-oxygen cycle dependent on it, too.

He doesn't just make mistakes... he makes 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘱𝘪𝘥 mistakes.

Claudia's avatar

Let me (slightly) edit your last paragraph: Even if god were real, trans people deserve basic human rights, decency and respect. God is not an excuse to be shitty to other people.

(Re the lying - clearly the 'thou shalt not lie' is missing in their list of commandments.)

Oh - there's something else which trans people deserve: A place to pee. And poo. In peace.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

And Yahweh has made more mistakes, as documented by the bible, than I can hope to guess at. He is at minimum inept and clueless about his own creation, and the solutions he attempts to apply typically do more harm than good.

Some creator! 😝

This is an excellent TikTok on the breakdown of God's rather poor and inadequate reasoning against Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden.

It wasn't poor and inadequate reasoning. It was deliberate and intentional malice.

The idea of an all-powerful God collapses in on itself upon being subjected to rational questions. Like, 'How can an all powerful God want anything?'

That is a great observation, we know at the core, organized religion is about money, and power.

Stephen Brady's avatar

So, I have read the bible several times and I cannot say that I ever saw Trans people called out in it - anywhere. I did notice Matthew 25:40, though: "Whatever you do to the least of these, you have done to me." I am still awaiting the first edition of the NRRV - the New Revised Rethuglican Version.

OwossoHarpist's avatar

No mentioning of transgenders found anywhere in the Bible. That's for sure.

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

This is what they trot out:

Genesis 1:27 (KJV)

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

It never occurs to them that gawd created some males in female bodies and some females in male bodies.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

But if God is a He, then women are not made in His image. Or is God neither man nor woman? That would make God non-binary and the only people who are made in the image of God the non-binary folks and everyone else are going to hell or whatever. Or if God changes as he pleases then transgender people and gender fluid people are the most godlike.

Or, and hear me out, God doesn’t exist except as an excuse for bigots to bigot and to con folks for power and money.

Zorginipsoundsor's avatar

Adendum: Or that their god intentionally creates transgender people.

Joan the Dork's avatar

Based on his characterization in their holy book, he's 𝘦𝘹𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 the kind of asshole who'd stick someone in the wrong body just to fuck with them. He created foreskins just so he could order his chosen people to chop off parts of their own dicks, after all.

Stephen Brady's avatar

And lots and lots of Gay and Bi people.

Joe King's avatar

Image of God nonsense that is doing double duty these days: it justifies (to them) their transphobia as well as the evolution denial they have had for centuries.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

Don’t forget their misogyny. Image of God, god is male, therefore women are not truly images of god and not really human.

Stephen Brady's avatar

Well of course - women are incubators and household slaves. Ain't patriarchy grand?

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Nor the vagaries that occur DESPITE the simplistic XX - XY dichotomy that those bigots love to point to.

ericc's avatar

Biological sex has pretty much zero to do with trans rights.

I mean, even Paul started out as Saul. Appellation has really nothing to do with genitalia.

Dianne Marie Leonard's avatar

Or gender presentation. Just a few days ago, a guy who'd been known all his life as Robert stood on a public balcony in front of thousands of people and announced that his name was now Leo (followed by some archaic numbers.) He was wearing a dress while he did this. He and the organization he heads don't think that trans people are real or that women are people. /s

Dianne Marie Leonard's avatar

If you don't take the RCC seriously, the jokes write themselves. (Caveat: they are too fucking powerful *not* to take seriously...)

Joe King's avatar

Both sex and gender are a spectrum and not a strict binary. These bigots never learned that, and when presented with the actual evidence, they respond with "but muh buy-bull sez!"

ericc's avatar

I think the more important point is that it's all just naturalistic fallacy reasoning. We humans can make up any social rules we want. Genes, development etc. might inform them, but they never dictate them. We could (and sometimes do) demarcate sports participation by weight, or demarcate bathroom use by hair color, or jail type by crime (again, we somewhat already do that), or insist names end with an "i" for righties and a "z" for lefties. Two of those are silly, but the point is that there's no logical way to derive 'ought' from 'is.' But note this swings both ways - it is just as fallacious to reason from "it's a spectrum" to a social rule as it is to reason from "it's a binary" to a social rule. Like it or not, our social rules are up for *social* discussion and decision about the way we want to treat each other. That discussion cannot be closed off and cannot be won (either conservatively or progressively) by stating some fact of nature.

Honestly, I often wonder why people even go there. Does it really require an understanding of biology to realize it's a jerk move to constantly call someone Robert after they've told you "call me Kim." Or to realize it's a jerk move to try and stop someone from using the bathroom when they really need to go, regardless of what symbol is on the door.

Claudia's avatar

*Gays and/or trans people may have been miscaracterised as "eunuchs" until recently. Some Ancient Egypt mummies didn't help, they were thought to be eunuchs too when they were ritually emasculated after their death.

None of that crap in the NRRV. The new and improved Jeebus has an AK-47.

oraxx's avatar

Left up to pastors and faith leaders, the steam engine would be a distant dream. Every bit of progress the human race has ever made on every front was achieved by overcoming these people. I think what they're really upset about is what they see as an erosion of their expectation of Christian privilege. They are professional victims who love celebrating their imaginary victimization far more than anything Jesus supposedly said.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Worse, every medical advancement that alleviated suffering or death would be equally non-existent or banned from use, as they supposedly act against the Will of God™. Of course, they never think of that ... until they're the ones fighting anything from a summer cold to COVID-19.

Interesting to me how the fascists can file suit claiming they are harmed by a law when they are not, but when an average citizen files suit against the fascists about the actual harm they are doing to us, it's "you have no standing!"

Nope. The primary reason these bigots would "lose custody" is when they put their own kids on the street for being who they are.

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

They don’t seem to care that they lose their “god-given children” when they send them to the religious behavior camps, abuse them for Jesus, or kick them out for not being the perfect little possessions the parents expect of them. How many religious “leaders” have adult children that no longer speak to them and/or speak out about the many abuses they endured or the horrific ways the “leaders” lie, cheat, and steal from their congregations?

No, they are only concerned about losing their access to abuse and control their children as their owners.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Well, gee. We have pastors claiming to have violated a law which they haven't, likely in a move to either rabble-rouse their congregations or insist that they are now liable to be arrested, in yet another attempt to claim [all together now, gang]: PERSECUTION!!! As Hemant himself as stated, they are far less scofflaws than they are assholes with zero empathy and as much compassion or understanding of just what it is to be trans. Wisely, secular law officials haven't taken the bait.

So ultimately, what Pastor Goble is doing amounts to little more than a bunch of sound and fury, signifying nothing ... or damned little. Now why do I get the feeling that that's what he does at the pulpit most if the time?

"gender-confused pronouns" So what? Is it that hard to be respectful to people and call them by the names and pronouns they ask for? Whatever their reasons.

And what the hell does fearfully made mean? Your god doesn't own me. He gave me free-will, supposedly, he has no place complaining how I use it unless I'm hurting other people. But he seems silent on that subject.

“Christianity is being outlawed!!!!”

Is Christianity just hating trans people? Is it only about misgendering trans people and beating them up for going to the bathroom? Is that the foundation of Christianity? Or is it founded on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and his teachings? If you not being able to bully vulnerable minorities is the same as Christianity being outlawed, then it ought to be. Full stop. Whatever. You are just choosing to be despicable and making whatever excuse you can to not face challenges to your despicability. Making about your religion is a convenient excuse because you can manipulate the Bible to make it say whatever you want and it’s protected from scrutiny based on a very loose interpretation of religious freedom.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

“Christianity is being outlawed!!!!”

No, not even close. What's being outlawed is the public practice of denigrating those of an alternative sexual identity. That simple. If people like Goble cannot restrain themselves from such behavior in public, they can face the consequences of their ill-considered action.

Period.

NOGODZ20's avatar

I wanna ask them:

Have your businesses been destroyed? Have Christians been beaten in the streets for being Christians? Have all their churches been closed? Have they been forced to wear little patches on their clothing? Have they been herded into ghettos? Have they been puhed into freight cars and sent off to concentration camps?

Was anyone legally confined? I don't remember that. Closest thing I can think of is Australia's quarantine, where incoming visitors *were* confined for some time. But nobody is forcing a USAian to go to Australia.

Likewise, not being able to go *into* some shop you want to visit or buy a plane ticket to some place you want to go is not 'confinement.'

ericc's avatar

No, you can denigrate. That's free speech.

Public accommodation owners and staff can't harass specific customer types as a means of limiting service to just the people they like.

Which was kinda always and already illegal (IMO), but legislation often has to deal with the 'yes butters' who claim some bigotry they have doesn't count as harassing because religion.
