Catholic Priest, Who Didn't Speak Out Against Trump, Tells Church "I Have Failed You."
Other religious leaders should follow his lead.
Chicago Catholic priest Father William Corcoran did some finger pointing over who’s responsible for the recent Capitol riots— and he pointed at himself, much to our surprise.
Obviously, this is great news. This is necessary news. A church leader owning his mistakes, condemning himself for not speaking out against Donald Trump’s contemptible behavior sooner, is the energy our nation deserves in 2021.
I did chuckle a little at the end of this sentence: “As President Trump has lied about so many things, I have never spoken out, and fear we are teaching the young that truth and facts do not matter.”
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves on truth and facts, Corcoran. We’re just glad you want to meet the basic level of decency.Another Catholic who’s doing the minimum amount of work to jibe with the times, Pope Francis, is catching heat from conservative Catholics for a minor language change in canon law. The pope swapped out “lay men” for “lay persons,” to reflect the already established modifications allowing women to serve as acolytes and lectors during Catholic Mass.
As Joe Biden takes his oath of office, there’s no need to wait to criticize his administration. Consider that there’s an interfaith inauguration prayer… that doesn’t include non-religious chaplains.
C’mon, Team Biden, do better!Very disappointed to see zero inclusion of the secular community in this inaugural interfaith service. The secular community has so many excellent nontheistic and humanist clergy to offer who could have been invited to participate.Note: Rev. William Barber II headlining Biden's interfaith inauguration prayer service is something of a return to form; the Cathedral didn't have a central preacher for Trump four years ago, when they were criticized for hosting one for him at all. https://t.co/KwkmiUGblZJack Jenkins @jackmjenkinsSecretary of State and Christian Nationalist Mike Pompeo used his last full day in office to denounce… multiculturalism.
Woke-ism, multiculturalism, all the -isms — they're not who America is. They distort our glorious founding and what this country is all about. Our enemies stoke these divisions because they know they make us weaker.Researcher Ryan P. Burge notes that this is not an unusual stance among white Christians who go to church frequently:
Only 38% or white people who attend church multiple times a week say that multiculturalism should be celebrated. It's 71% of white people who never go to church.Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's tweet that multiculturalism “is not who America is," sent on his last full day at the State Department, infuriated American diplomats who described it as a final insult by the Trump administration. https://t.co/lNd1criwz0The New York Times @nytimesNorth Dakota State Rep. Terry B. Jones just filed an incoherent shit-pile of a bill that pretends to have secularism in mind, while accusing Drag Queen Story Time as being “faith-based,” and therefore “nonsecular.”
The language of the bill sounds more like delirious rantings overheard on a subway train than something an elected official would present for consideration as law.
“Drag queen story time” means a nonsecular event where men dress up as women and display an inherently sexualized performance targeting minors with the purpose of promoting and normalizing the faith-based beliefs and practices that stem from the secular humanist religion.
…
“Nonsecular marriage” means any form of so-called marriage which does not involve a man and a woman and is inseparably linked to the religion of secular humanism. The term refers to so-called marriages between more than two people, persons of the same sex, a person and an animal, or a person and an object.
…
The term refers to a religion that tends to promote licentiousness and to justify practices that are inconsistent with the peace and safety of the state. The term refers to the belief that man is merely a bundle of chemicals, animated pieces of meat, or accidental particles, and that nature is all there is…
A former Republican candidate for Senate has some THOUGHTS about the inauguration:
The Biden/Harris inauguration is going to be an oversized satanic seance and I highly recommend that Christians avoid it at all cost.I’ve never wanted tickets to anything more…
