A religion being deceitful and teaching children to lie.

My shocked face: -_-

Joe King's avatar

Just evidence that the grift isn't unique to Christianity.

foofaraw & Chiquita(ARF!)'s avatar

But statistically, scams seem to be more the "dominion" of the Abrahamic faiths.

(Ignoring malls and airports, of course....)

XJC's avatar

But...but...Judeo-Christian values.

Sallyfemina's avatar

Christians have just amplified and perfected the grift.

𝑈𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑓𝑢𝑛𝑑𝑠 𝑓𝑜𝑟 “𝑔𝑎𝑝 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟” 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑝𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝐼𝑠𝑟𝑎𝑒𝑙 𝑓𝑜𝑟 17-18-𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟-𝑜𝑙𝑑𝑠 𝑜𝑟 𝑎 $16.5 𝑚𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑙 𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝑎𝑐𝑞𝑢𝑖𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑑𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 “𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑𝑦 𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑” 𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑠𝑜𝑛𝑎 𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑏𝑦 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑎𝑑.

And that's why it's not persecution, as much as they will claim. The religious affiliation of the group is irrelevant. Of course, they 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 disclose that information. But telling people that their donation is helping a child when it's really paying for a young adult's plane ticket and hotel stay is a long way from truth in advertising.

I would bet that Christians, Muslims, and atheists in this country would have no real issues donating to an Orthodox Jewish organization that was 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 helping needy children.

SeekingReason's avatar

They should remove it and then please remove all the christian bulllshit that invades the public square.

Joan the Dork's avatar

Oh, good- now that I know it's a grift, I have a reason beyond mere annoyance to hate the undying fuck out of that stupid ad jingle. Didn't really need a reason, and I haven't even had to hear it in the years since I cleansed my life of in-home advertising, but it's a nice bonus I guess.

oraxx's avatar

You can justify anything in the name of religion. It has been ever thus.

David Graf's avatar

Even back in NT days, Paul talked about the scammers who were using faith as a cloak for evil.

Boreal's avatar

Argument dismissed since "Paul" cannot be proven to ever have existed, along with the fictional jesus character.

scenario's avatar

I'm of the opinion that either Paul, Jesus or the disciples existed but not in the form that ended up in the bible. IMO, Jesus taught sometime vaguely around the traditional time, possibly decades earlier. When he died, his disciples continued his teaching but added in stories from other popular preachers of the time. Their disciples did the same thing. By the time it was written down, the original Jesus was replaced by a character known as Jesus who only contained a small part of what the historical Jesus actually did or said. Most of what they said he did was popular stories which had been floating around for a while and got attached to the Jesus character. All of the miracles were stories added later.

Boreal's avatar

This is no evidence of jesus existing or paul.

scenario's avatar

True. Its kind of a minor difference. Either Jesus and Paul were completely made up. Or there was a germ of reality but after the story was told over and over again before being written down, the version of Jesus and Paul that comes down to us bears little resemblance to the original. Paul's contribution to the Bible were letters. Some of which seem to be written by the same person going by their style. Somebody wrote them. It may or may not have been a guy named Saul/Paul. I think Jesus and Paul were a 2,000 year old cargo cult.

Someone is going to do it, so it might as well be me.

I”m going to clutch my pearls about this, and demand that the state get into gear, put the brakes on this, and stop the transmission of false information. We should definitely see this in the rear view mirror because it’s verbal battery, that tune. And since it seems to be fake*, something only hoods would do, and we’re tire’d of being jacked up Maybe a fraud conviction will be closer than it appears.

You’re welcome.

*i know. A “religious” “charity”— double quotes necessary— engaging in deceptive practices for money. The at’s a new one. They need christianity.

Maltnothops's avatar

Wow, you didn’t spare any effort!

Bensnewlogin's avatar

Wheel see about that!

Janet Amaral's avatar

Just tooting your your own horn about this, eh?

Are you being a dipstick to me? Don’t you ever tire of this?

Let's never forget that they do this evil with the full knowledge that it's evil while claiming to act in the name of their god.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Can you say, "Bate and switch," boys and girls? I KNEW that you could!

Seems as though evangelical Christianity isn't the only outfit willing to indulge in mendacity or hidden agendas to promote their cause. What burns my toast is that, in THIS case, the backers of Kars 4 Kids are exploiting KIDS, with the ultimate goal of indoctrinating them into Orthodox Jewry.

Problem is, though: kids are SMART. If they don't pick up on this scam from Hemant's article here, they'll pick it up from some other source and spread the news around ... whereupon Kars 4 Kids becomes cause non grata in a hurry.

Moral? Don't lie to kids. You'll wish you hadn't.

Dr Lou's avatar

Kars4Kids needs to be shut down but they are not 'indoctrinate kids into Orthodox Jewry.' Jews only proselytize each other...not others. You may not understand 'Orthodox Jewry' very well. You also may want to read my longer comment on this string

Boreal's avatar

Religion produces absolutely nothing of value. An invisible product that cannot be 'redeemed' until you enter corpse-hood. It is a societal parasite that parts rubes from cash and critical thinking.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Worse, religion wastes the time of the people who indulge in it, leads them into unreality, and modifies their thinking to sustain itself at their expense.

Religion is a PARASITE, plain and simple.

Boreal's avatar

Also makes them bigots.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Us versus them. We're saved / blessed / forgiven; you're not. You are the OTHER, and therefore not quite human, et cetera.

Pernicious shit, to be sure.

Boreal's avatar

Like the ones that have asked me "aren't you afraid of going to hell?"

Me: Nope, I don't have any evidence imaginary places exist.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

My comment on that is what it has been for the past multiple years: "You're trying to scare or intimidate me with something I don't believe in and YOU CAN'T PROVE."

Tends to be fairly effective.

I'm going to quibble with one facet of this commentary even though I agree with 99 plus percent. I certainly agree this group needs to be shut down in that they are as dishonest as about any other organized religion, particularly those more fundamentalist members

But this still isn't the same as Christian group proselyization. Jews do not seek converts in the traditional sense. Instead, the Orthodox groups prey on secular and otherwise unorthodox Jews trying to make us 'more Jewish.' That's largely the entire purpose of the Lubavitch sect who can, frankly, be quite annoying and extremely self-indulgent

If Orthodox Jewish groups are making massive amounts of money off of Kars4Kids for the purpose of being even more annoying to include Orthodox Jewish matchmaking, that is grotesqually improper and, again, must be shut down.

But one thing they're not doing is trying to impose their belief on others of different beliefs and religions. They're not demanding everybody else follow their lead from medical to spiritual. Their targets are other Jews. They're improperly feeding themselves while being massive pains in the ass to Jews who do not follow their particular degree of mythology and fantasy

Bensnewlogin's avatar

Well, that certainly makes it “better”.

Dr Lou's avatar

I made clear my position on Kars4Kids. Don't create your own incorrect interpretation then try to insult based on it. You might want to reread my above comment

Bensnewlogin's avatar

I think you mistook my gentle sarcasm, not directed at you, for insult.

My apologies.

larry parker's avatar

Proselytization is the act of attempting to persuade someone to adopt a particular religion, belief, or political ideology

Historical Context

Historically, the term was used in the context of converting to Judaism, where a proselyte was a Gentile considering conversion. Over time, the meaning expanded to include any attempt to persuade someone to adopt a new belief system.

Wikipedia

Dr Lou's avatar

Jews do not proselyte and do not seek converts. And I don't use Wikipedia as a primary citation.

wreck's avatar

Oy vey! This is meshuga!

Troublesh00ter's avatar

It's worse than meshuga. It's a bunch of schmendricks, trying to put one over on innocent (or maybe NOT SO INNOCENT) kids. Those schlemiels screwed up, though, because the word is in the air now.

And their little scheme will become scheiße.

Maltnothops's avatar

I’ve never seen this ad or heard the jingle. And I’m not going to click on it either.

Joan the Dork's avatar

Better that you don't. It's "The Song That Gets On Everybody's Nerves" of ad jingles.

Guerillasurgeon's avatar

Kars for kids has obviously not penetrated this far south. Quite probably a good thing. Ah, it's been a shit week my bush track where I run has been destroyed by the flooding, and I'm feeling my age.

With all those scammed millions they can’t afford to find a kid who can stay on key? I’m moving to California if it means I’ll never hear that ear worm again.

Liars for Jesus. Oops, scratch that. Liars for Abraham, or maybe Moses.

Liars for Jews for Jesus?

larry parker's avatar

I don't know. The whole thing gets kind of messyianic.

Many sons had Father Abraham

I am one of them and so are you

So let's just praise the Lord 🎶
