Christian bigot behaves badly. Faces negative consequences. Cries "persecution!" Rinse. Repeat.

Brianna Amore's avatar

As predictable as the sun rising in the East.

David Graf's avatar

His supporters will paint it as behaving righteously and I suspect the Supreme Court will buy it.

Jaden Ivey thinks about men having sex more than I do and I'm gay.

Jane in NC's avatar

I suspect there's a reason men having sex is on his brain. It's usually the loudest anti-gay bigots with biggest secrets.

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Yep, huge red flag, like all those blathering about everyone else being a pedophile.

OT: Judges block the orange pedo from continuing his ballroom project unless congress approves it and also from defunding NPR and PBS.

He will be up all night ranting. Hoping for the big, beautiful obituary.

His ballroom that never was is getting a ketchup remodel tonight.

I prefer him not to get away from being put in jail on the grounds that he is doolally tap.

They´re coming to take him away,

Haha, they´re coming to take him away,

Ho ho, hee hee, ha ha,

To the funny farm

Where life is beautiful all the time

And I´ll be happy to see

Those nice young men

In their clean white coats

And they´re coming to take him away, HA HAAAA

My first *thought* every morning when I wake up is "Well, I'm awake. I guess they didn't nuke MacDill AFB overnight."

My first *question* is "Is he dead yet?". A quick check online has so far proven disappointing.

Jaden Ivey has an absolute First Amendment right to free speech, even speech which is despicable, as we all do. The Supreme Court has been very clear about that over the last 80 years. It's why American Nazis have been able to march through a Jewish enclave such as Skokie, Illinois; or why the Ku Klux Klan can march through a Southern town largely inhabited by people of color. What the Nazi Party and the KKK stand for is utterly despicable. They do have a First Amendment right to voice their views.

HOWEVER Jaden Ivey forgot that along with that absolute First Amendment right to free speech, including speech such as his which is utterly despicable, comes the right to accept the consequences of that speech.

If that means that he loses his job, and becomes unemployable -- that's the consequence of his bigoted "free speech".

If that means members of the Nazi Party or the KKK are publicly identified, as the Internet is so good at doing, and they lose their jobs and are forced to move -- that's the consequence of their "free speech".

Frankly, I don't feel the least bit sorry for him.

Guerillasurgeon's avatar

What he actually forgot was that private organisations don't owe him freedom of speech. Only the government. They always forget this when they scream censorship.:)

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

A very important point.

David Graf's avatar

The complication is that the speech in question was directly inspired by his religious beliefs and so may be covered under anti-discrimination policies. I wouldn't be surprised if the current Supreme Court bought that argument.

They never thank god when they lose.

Guerillasurgeon's avatar

They should condemn God when they lose surely?

Kunstler lives in my region. I've heard him speak at events. Didn't know he was a fucking RWNJ.

Guerillasurgeon's avatar

Metaxas on the other hand. I'm not even American and even I know he sneaked up behind some poor bugger hit him in the head and then ran away.

Daniel Rotter's avatar

I don't know who this Kunstler person is, but Metataxas used to be a fairly mainstream and normal "establishment" Christian commentator/historian. In the Trump years, dude has gone batshit crazy.

Some wise words from Odin in the Hávamál:

"The fool who fancies he is full of wisdom

While he sits by his hearth at home.

Quickly finds when questioned by others .

That he knows nothing at all.

The ignorant booby had best be silent

When he moves among other men,

No one will know what a nit-wit he is

Until he begins to talk;

No one knows less what a nit-wit he is

Than the man who talks too much. "

It's a brother to the verse in Proverbs which says "Even a fool, when he holds his peace, is counted wise".

Good!!! I wish we could get rid of low IQ convicted felon politicians like they did Ivey.

Like you say, sports is a never ending procession of athletes pushing their religious conviction that god somehow made them win. It's disgusting.
