Genesis 12: When they were traveling through Egypt and he was afraid the Egyptians would kill him to get at his wife, Abraham (then called Abram) lied and said they weren’t married. A pharaoh then purchased Sarah (then called Sarai) for himself, thinking she was unmarried, and God had to smite the pharaoh’s household to get him to give her back to Abraham. TL;DR Abraham let another dude rail his wife because he was afraid the guy would kill him otherwise. Real manly, huh?
You think there is some subtle LGBTQ+ conditioning because Bluey is a girl, and is blue? As Hemant pointed out, Bluey is a breed of dog that is known for being 𝘣𝘭𝘶𝘦. Also, about a century ago the traditional colors were pink for boys and blue for girls. That bit of your "tradition" isn't all that traditional, now is it?
You think that a dad being fully present for his kids is somehow bad representation of fatherhoood, because it is "unbiblical". Apparantly, you think that the bible prefers fathers to be aloof, unreachable authoritarians. Just like your god. Sounds like a deadbeat dad to me. A father whose only involvement with the kids is financial support and punishment for wrongdoing is almost as bad as a father who isn't there at all. Do you still talk to your kids? I'm not so sure about that.
Maybe you're mad that Bluey's dad isn't following the example of the "righteous" Lot. If you look at the story of what happened after the destruction of Sodom, you will (hopefully) get why most rational people would find "biblical fatherhood" disturbing and horrifying. If that is the case, you need to be on a watchlist.
Australians also sometimes use blue to mean loyal or faithful. As in true blue. So the name is a bit multilayered; dog breed, color, and behavior. Pryor is showing a real clueless cultural insularity to think it has anything to do with US politics. As the song doesn't go, "...you probably think this cartoon is about you..."
Also, Bluey clearly takes after her Blue heeler dad - who is also blue. Are daughters not supposed to look like their fathers? This will be the next thing these numpties attack in real life. They'll be transvestigating women that resemble their dads because they "look like men".
One of the jokes about my siblings and me is that if you had our resumes without our names, it would never occur to you that we had anything in common, let alone being sibs. But when we stand next to each — brothers and sisters — the resemblance is so obvious that complete strangers have done double takes. There were 5 of us although we are now down to four.
Actually what happened before Sodom was Lot threw his virgin daughters to a mob to be gang raped. This seems to be ok Biblical Fatherhood for some reason.
Biblical Fatherhood seems to focus on sons. Daughters are property, Lot can do what he pleases with his stuff. Now sons, THEY are the ones to carry the bloodline, they're the ones worth caring for.
Man, these people are hell bent on making Christianity entirely unappealing.
What’s the point of being a father if you aren’t even going to interact with your children? If all you are going to do with them is “discipline” them (usually by physical violence)?
He did get one thing right, “embracing these kinds of portrayals… will go a long way in shaping our intuition around the essence of these roles.” Aaaaaaannnnnnnnddddddd? That’s bad? Yes, the producers of the show are trying to shape our understanding of good fathers, because the shït we’ve been fed for generations about what makes a good father has been so sadly wrong and has caused so much pain and suffering, for both the children and the fathers. His “Meta-father” Abraham only interacted with his son Isaac in order to kill him. What kind of role model is that? It wasn’t even for discipline, just taking orders from a psychotic imaginary friend.
Yeah, I prefer the dad in Bluey to Abraham any day.
Abraham listened to voices in his head. Bluey's dad listens to his kids ... and more. The difference might as well be midnight with no moon and high noon at the summer solstice.
Jewish commenters have noted that after the binding of Isaac, God never speaks to Abraham again; some believe that this episode was a test not of Abraham’s faith but of his decency—which Abraham fails by proving he is willing to kill his own son. I think it’s quite possible God, like me, would prefer an Abraham who is more like Bandit.
I think it was Matt Dillahunty who said that the entire Bible might have been intended as a test. People who believe that the Bible has instructions from god to humanity fail the test.
Please don't tell my daughter that. Next you will be saying gay men can not be grandpas, and I will have to put my fingers in my ears and shout "LA LA LA, I can't hear you!"
After this and yesterday's article, I had this thought this morning. For a religion supposedly based on a God who is the epitome of love, too many Christians seem to think that love or at least expressing it is a bad thing.
Sounds in this case like he wanted to virtue signal his conservative cred by picking some bit of mainstream culture to complain about...and failed so badly even other conservatives aren't buying it.
I'd like to know where Pryor's outrage is over real children who are physically, mentally and sexually abused by their Christian clergy and Christian parents.
And based upon that, Pryor decides he's fit to throw it down on one of the most popular kids' shows out there. All the criticism he spews really boils down to his observation that Bluey's dad doesn't measure up to the supposedly outstanding examples of fatherhood in the bible ... and even as I type that, Abraham and Isaac and their questionable relationship spring immediately to mind. This also makes me wonder what Pryor's opinion of the Pearls and To Train Up a Child might be.
The point here is pretty clear: Bluey's dad is ENGAGED with his children ... or his pups or whatever! He plays with them, empathizes with them, and any correction he might deliver is measured and with consideration for his kids' sensibilities. That's a quality I see nowhere in the bible.
I should also mention: as a Red Coat, I worked a live-action Bluey show, something over a year ago, and I was able to watch most of it. I was impressed with the writing and how interactions between kids and parents was handled. The writing was clearly NOT just for the kids, either, but for the entire audience, and that was enormously refreshing. The bible, having been written centuries ago and effectively frozen in time, has a poor relationship at best with families of the 21st century, a fact that Pryor either fails to acknowledge or doesn't want to.
And the fact that he wants to condemn all of Bluey based on a three-minute clip tells me everything I need to know about him, as regards this particular situation.
He is not really a true conservative (in keeping with most of the political right, now) - he is a reactionary and is wandering the world looking for anything he can react against and disparage. He needs to be offended and tell everyone else they should be too - a la Monica Cole.
“The bible, having been written centuries ago and effectively frozen in time, has a poor relationship at best with families of the 21st century, a fact that Pryor either fails to acknowledge or doesn't want to.“
Uh, the Bible isn’t supposed to change for the times, the times need to change for the Bible. The families of the 21st century need to conform to the Bible’s teachings, and they’ll like it or the beatings will continue.
At the risk of being both blunt and crude, anyone attempting to force their bible on me or mine will discover with startling alacrity how fast they can wind up in an emergency room.
I appreciate the sentiment...feel pretty much the same...but it doesn't work that way. Your neighbor never explicitly comes over to force his religion on you. Instead, he and/or she will get with their fellow religionists and out vote you. Then they can let the lawmakers force religion on you while they smile, shake your hand and lend you their lawnmower. See, aren't they such nice neighbors? 😡
I can see why a kid's cartoon depicting the best dad ever would grate on the nerves of 'alpha' males who live in such fear of being called 'not manly enough,' they're afraid to show a caring, fun or gentle side to their own kids as Bandit does. Imagine the horror of having a dad who treats his kids' childhoods like the ephemeral gift it is, and makes sure to enjoy every minute of it with them. Damaged for life, those kids. 🤦♀️
If his idea of 'biblical fatherhood' is as constricted and joyless as this article depicts, children would be much better off with parents who ditch the bible and turn on Bluey.
Well, I guess Jeremy Pryor didn't watch the episode Dad and Mom get into a fight. Mom throws a dish at Dad. He backhands her, says he's had enough, those kids aren't even his and goes to the corner store for cigarettes and never comes back. Just like a good Christian man.
I bet this joker thinks that Trump is the ideal masculine father. His disdain for mothers and women is so evident from his commentary. There’s nothing wrong with a nurturing father.
My late Dad played with his daughters, told us silly jokes and cherished spending time with us.
It’s head scratching that this would be denigrated by anyone. We need loving fathers.
Consider how these same people decry the number of children growing up without a father. (Usually black. Always the fault of a promiscuous woman, never the fact that we put black men to prison for a little bit of weed, while not even giving a slap on the wrist to college white boys)
Pryor had best skip viewing "PJ Masks." Through entertainment, that young superhero trio teach teamwork, positive social behavior, sportsmanship and compassion. In short, the show is big on educational value in a very positive way.
Pryor would take one look and shriek WOKEISM!!! before swooning and fainting.
Dora, a little girl who goes on adventures instead of doing chores at home, and who, horrors of hortors, wears shorts. Plus, in the French version she teaches English.
I wonder what kind of people religion is creating today. Their jeezyboy has been remade as a bastardized authoritarian psychopath. Then again, the apple does not fall far from the tree. The old man is a vengeful, violently sadistic megalomaniac.
In his book on the biblical god, Dan Barker also took apart Gentle Jesus, Meek and Mild and showed people that Son o' God was anything but gentle/meek/mild.
Poor Jewish Jesus was first executed by the Romans and then his teachings were abducted and edited by a Roman Emperor in 325 AD Council of Nicaea. He’d be horrified by his current followers, not that the ones in the past were so great.
Oh, I get it. Blue is also the color of the Democratic Party so it’s a double whammy. When even the GOP faithful think you’re a twit for finding insidiousness in an innocent children’s cartoon, you are definitely on the wrong side of things. Will that change anything? Nah, Pryor will just find a way to double down.
It’s so ridiculous that religious kooks will hate on books or shows by doing the bare minimum of watching or reading, but can write long screeds on the evils of them. 🙄
That's because to them, anything they deemed objectionable isn't worth a second look (the taint might rub off on them, or something). They're offended, and that's all they need. It's BAAAAAAAAAD because they say so.
They need to avoid any book that might make their brain start working or that might reveal a alternative to their loveless, bitter, fear ridden existence.
When I make baby gifts, I lean toward yellow unless the recipient asks for a specific color. I just like yellow, it’s my favorite, but it is also acceptable for whatever gender.

If he's citing Abraham or God interacting with Abraham as an example of biblical fatherhood, CPS needs to rescue his kids now.
Yeah, a man willing to sacrifice his children is *NOT* a role model for a father.
Also, Abraham caved in to his wife's demands that he send Hagar and Ishmael away. Parent of the year there.
Granted, God gave him the okay to do so. Until then, Abraham was actually troubled by Sarah's demand.
Yep. And what's worse, I seem to recall Abraham and Sarah telling that lie a second time.
Though in fairness he’s not lying when he says Sarah is his sister. It’s just that they’re also married.

That is brilliant!
Mr Pryor:

There was an Australian Olympic event horse named True Blue Girdwood. The horse was red, i.e., , chestnut IIRC.😁
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oyjnzBpe9I
Very telling that he regards "Abram" as the Meta-father. Telling and disturbing. And horrifying.
Old Testament horrifying.
From his addendum post where he lists the differences between Bandit and Abraham:
"Bandit wants to maximize time with his kids when they are children.
Abraham wants to maximize time with his kids when they are adults"
My dude, this is *how* you get your kids to want to be around you as adults. Why must you choose one or the other?!
Also, Bluey clearly takes after her Blue heeler dad - who is also blue. Are daughters not supposed to look like their fathers? This will be the next thing these numpties attack in real life. They'll be transvestigating women that resemble their dads because they "look like men".
Don't tell anybody but my wife and her brother have the same face.
One of the jokes about my siblings and me is that if you had our resumes without our names, it would never occur to you that we had anything in common, let alone being sibs. Darkmatter did a video on that. In the script embracing vicious religion was a fail test for AIs and cause for deletion.
I'm surprised he didn't try to claim, "Being a good father is gay!"
Silly, gay men can't be fathers. That's why it's unnatural.
Please don't tell my daughter that. Next you will be saying gay men can not be grandpas, and I will have to put my fingers in my ears and shout "LA LA LA, I can't hear you!"
Pryor’s afraid if not enough parents turn their kids into assholes, eventually he won’t have anybody to hang out with.
After this and yesterday's article, I had this thought this morning. For a religion supposedly based on a God who is the epitome of love, too many Christians seem to think that love or at least expressing it is a bad thing.

He sounds like he gives tips and tricks to the Turpins.
Probably read and re-read Michael and Debi Pearl.
Another case where the 8th gets in the way of justice. It would be worse without it, but there are cases where you are sorely tempted.
Clergy are god on earth and everything they do is godly.
𝑃𝑟𝑦𝑜𝑟 𝑑𝑜𝑒𝑠𝑛’𝑡 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 ℎ𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑚𝑢𝑐ℎ 𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑎𝑦 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑖𝑡𝑠𝑒𝑙𝑓. 𝐻𝑒 𝑎𝑑𝑚𝑖𝑡𝑠 ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑎𝑡𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑑 𝑎 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑙𝑒 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑟𝑡 𝑐𝑙𝑖𝑝—”𝐸𝑣𝑒𝑟𝑦𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐼’𝑚 𝑤𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑖𝑠 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑟𝑒𝑒-𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑡𝑒 𝑐𝑙𝑖𝑝.”

At the risk of being both blunt and crude, anyone attempting to force their bible on me or mine will discover with startling alacrity how fast they can wind up in an emergency room.

Truly a Christian dummy we're seeing here. And a bad dad, too.
Seriously, Bluey's a wonderful show. Award-winning even. The Christian dummy who wrote that awful article isn't.

♫Then there was that Christmas Eve, Dad went to the store, we checked his room, his things were gone, we didn't see him no more♫
I don't think you'll find such an episode in Bluey.
Holytape was, of course, snarking to beat the band. :)

They need to avoid any book that might make their brain start working or that might reveal a alternative to their loveless, bitter, fear ridden existence.
The pink-for-girls-blue-for-boys thing is neither universal nor timeless. But then, that's a fact-based observation, not a belief-based one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_historical_sources_for_pink_and_blue_as_gender_signifiers
I have a feeling that like a lot of conservative assholes, Pryor is allergic to facts.
I like blue AND pink. :)
(I think I had a yellow blanket as a baby, according to my parents. Yellow's good, too)
When I make baby gifts, I lean toward yellow unless the recipient asks for a specific color. I just like yellow, it’s my favorite, but it is also acceptable for whatever gender.
The idea back in the day, around 100 years ago, when blue was for girls and pink for boys, was that pink was a tint of red, red was the color of blood and that is too harsh for girls. I have a Bornean machete gifted to us by a tribe there, several decades ago. The tassles are a manly manly almost-neon pink. Why? Because this particular shade of light pink is a really difficult dye color for them to produce naturally. Thus they only use it for manly manly stuff.
I suspect that (if this hasn't happened already...) it'll go the way of purple in Europe. I.e. from noble to common as soon as modern manufacturing techniques let everyone have it, cheap.
When my nephew wanted his bedroom painted a few years back, he asked for purple. My sister's answer "OK".
You will have to kill me to see me wearing something pink 😁
I'm with you. Pink just ain't my color ... full, freaking STOP.
When I'm feeling extra bi during Pride Month, I like sporting fringed denim short shorts and tube socks that are blue with 3 white stripes on one foot/leg and pink with 3 white stripes on the other. I throw a purple Huskies hoodie into the mix to get all three colors of our flag. :D
You must be extra blind... stunning.
When ya got it flaunt it.😎
This guy is weird. Sad and weird. Just like they were 20 years ago when the zealots generated their tempest in a teapot about a supposedly gay kids-show character…. Because he carried a bag. In a show for like 18-month-olds with no concept of gender. Oddly no one complained about the tomboy character.
And good job, me, because now I have the damn Teletubbies theme song in my head.
Better that then the image of Jerry Fartwell manslaining to Katie Couric about Tinky-Winky's OBVIOUS sexual orientation based on...a purse. And why that was baaaaaaad for America simply because Christians disagreed with it.
Christians made a big deal over the sexual orientation and genitalia of muppets (Bert and Ernie). Geez, what a bunch of marroons.
(Turns out Bert and Ernie's former writer Mark Saltzman really MEANT fo them to be a gay couple) :D
Nobody keeps the same roommate for 50 years unless it's love.

THIS is Pryor's biggest problem in life? When was the last time he went outside? Of his cave, that is.
