"I don't need to prove that to you," Farnsworth said, "To me, it's what I know in my heart is true, besides all the biblical references."

a) Yes you do. If you have no scientific evidence to back up your belief in Creationism, we are not beholden to it and can dismiss your claim without evidence.

b) What's in your organ is irrelevant.

c) The bible isn't a book of science and contains an endless number of contradictions and outright errors.

Let me ask you something. If your book is the inerrant word of your deity, which is correct: Genesis 1 or Genesis 2? They conflict with each other. They can't both be correct.

S. Arch's avatar

"Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" (sometimes shortened to ECREE),[1] also known as the Sagan standard, is an aphorism popularized by science communicator Carl Sagan. He used the phrase in his 1979 book Broca's Brain and the 1980 television program Cosmos. It has been described as fundamental to the scientific method and is regarded as encapsulating the basic principles of scientific skepticism.

You are a fucking pedant, and I don't give a fuck of your condescension πŸ–•

S. Arch's avatar

Wow. Some people are so childish, they can't even handle being asked a question. I expected more from a community that prides itself on being rational. You should seriously consider growing up.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

Yes they can both be correct. This is religion we’re talking about. Either one of them is correct. all of them are correct, or none of them are correct.

NOGODZ20's avatar

I'm going with "none." ;)

Bensnewlogin's avatar

But it is far more entertaining for all of them to be correct. What Matters is not so much that which is true, but that which is entertaining. I have said that many times on these very pages.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Big-time up-vote for the whole Gen 1 v Gen 2 contradiction. Order of events MATTERS, Farnsworth, or don't you care about that, either?

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

I bet he has never read either. I kind of feel you can't trust a religion thought up by a pedophilic con man in jail, because he wanted to bone young girls, otherwise known as children, in case I am being too obtuse.

Matri's avatar

Do we have proof he even has a heart?

Stan Duffner's avatar

How do all of these cretins feel about all the incest and pedophilia in the Bible? I'm sure they all agree with it since so many religious leaders follows both practices

Oh, terrific! In other words, "I know what I believe and I'm not interested in being dissuaded by bothersome things ... like FACTS." Someone needs to tell Farnsworth what happened in Pennsylvania, roughly 20 years ago. A little soiree known as Kitzmiller v Dover, and the ruling that stated that neither creationism nor intelligent design are fit to be taught in public schools.

So what we have here is really pretty pathetic. I'm not even sure it amounts to territory-marking, since Farnsworth's proposal has been declared dead on arrival.

Old Man Shouting At Cloud comes to mind. 😝

Black Hole and DM mourner's avatar

The first ruling against teaching creationism in public schools was about a century ago. Science progressed but not bigots brains.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Atavists like Farnsworth are just near-unbelievable to me that they even exist. I wonder if intelligent design is his blankee that he HAS to hang onto for whatever reason.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

No need to wonder. That’s exactly the case. His faith is what assures him that he is Godβ€˜s BFFF. It’s what tells him that he matters in the universe that doesn’t care whether he exists.

I so want him to say that to Professor Dave (Atheist), Forrest Valkai (Atheist), Gutsy Gibbons (Agnostic) and Clint's reptile (Christian). All scientists, 3 of them specialized in evolution.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Should we also throw in Francis Collins, who led the Human Genome Project, and is a born-again Christian who has publicly stated that evolution is based in solid science and that Adam and Eve are a genetic impossibility?

β€œNotwithstanding any other law,”

Well that’s nice, a pretty little run around jurisprudence. I can think of a hundred ways to use this phrase for good rather than ill.

Notwithstanding any other laws, taxes at 99% will be paid by all people who are worth more than $100,000,000.00. No exemptions or write offs.

Notwithstanding any other laws, insurance is required to cover all care primary and specialty doctors order for any and all individuals.

Notwithstanding any other laws, prisoners will be fully compensated for any and all work done during incarceration, slavery is abolished completely, no exceptions for convicted criminals or prisoners.

I know that’s not how our system works, you know that’s not how our system works, this asshole knows that’s not how our system works, this is not how our system works. This is laughable on its face, just for that phrase alone. But it is also laughable that he thinks there’s any valuable support for β€œintelligent design” neither evidentiary nor politically. This is just a big red flag telling the world that Farnsworth is a flaming idiot who is completely incompetent and plain stupid.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Since Darwin first published over 160 years ago, not one reputable research institute or university has come up with any evidence that evolution is wrong. In fact with all of the scientific and technological advances and massive amounts of evidence gathered in that time his theories have been confirmed and gaps filled about what he did not yet know.

The only ones I have heard trying to say he's wrong are christian nutbags.

OT: 4 moderate House Repubs have signed the discharge petition for a vote on extending ACA subsidies. That gets the number to 218. If none of them get bought off in the next 7 legislative days, there will be a vote in early January. It will likely narrowly pass the House and then get defeated in the Senate. But it will put Pubs on record of voting for dramatically higher health care premiums in the mid-term year.
