The hate in these people is absolutely terrifying. They inhabit a world beyond the reach of facts, reason, and human decency. They would make themselves masters of us all. Absolutely nothing ever demonstrated the disconnect between religion and morality quite like the evangelical preachers and their flocks declaring their unconditional love for the most corrupt, incompetent, and grotesquely immoral President in American history. If there is any upside to this, their hate and intolerance isn't helping their long game.

It's not just hate; it's a complete intolerance of any divergence of opinion. You either toe the company line or you are OUT, and not even the slightest deviation from that line can be accepted.

One more little piece of evidence describing an autocratic, fascist movement.

This is exactly indicative of what would happen if a Christian theocracy would take over: constant, petty internecine fights over minutiae and meaningless bullshit, particularly surrounding just WHICH version of Christianity was the OFFICIAL version.

Would make the whole Catholic / Protestant Northern Ireland thing look like a walk in the park.

This is more troubling that it first appears. Conservatives have rounded the corner. Now, anything but complete condemnation of the opponent is now seen as betrayal. Governing requires compromise, working with people you may not complete see eye to eye with. You have to be able to listen to the other side. You may not agree with them, or think that their solutions are acceptable, but at the minimum, you have to understand what they are thinking. But now, unless you agree with them them 110%, you are the enemy. You tow the rope, or you get lynched.

This lion and lamb trope is very poetic but (and I could be mis-remembering) is not really Biblical, It seems to be taken from Isaiah where it occurs twice, differently.

Isaiah 11

6 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.

7 And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.

Isaiah 65

25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.

Is this merely a poetic way of saying, “It’s just not going to happen.”?

My biggest problem with Biden was his need to work with those across the aisle. I do understand his logic, he had been in politics a long time and that's how it used to be. I get that he felt the American people deserved a leader who looked out for all of them, not just those in his tribe and I laud him for that. I am sure that he, probably rightly, assumed that the majority of conservatives did not agree with everything the Orange Jesus said.

But: The Republican party has not only refused to work across the aisle but they have made it a Republican plank that they would oppose anything the Democrats did. In fact, the entire platform of the 2020 election was that one plank. Trump's presidency was punctuated by undoing just about everything Obama accomplished. They insist that the only compromise is to say they are right and will not move. They have declared war and the only response is to burn them down. Kick them out of the political arena and stop catering to them at all. As for the people who don't agree with them all the time but continue to vote for them? They chose badly.

President Biden managed to get quite a bit done before the Republicans hunted and destroyed all statesmen.
