Don't you just love it when a religion with a nearly-2000 year history of blood, violence, death and destruction starts falsely accusing others of extremism?

LGBTQ extremism = acknowledging that queer people exist. Got it. I guess that makes me an extremist among extremists, since I not only acknowledge the existence of queer people, but I also want them to have actual rights.

As moderate christianity fades out, the extremists have to keep setting their intolerance barriers at a higher level. Anyone who is not 100% with them is 100% against them. They are shining a very bright spotlight on their obsessive intolerance and hastening their own disintegration. Good riddance! (I typically go to the grocery on Sunday mornings and the church parking lots are looking very anemic, these days.)

Good morning and happy new year to everyone.

This one sentence says it all:” Chick-fil-A built a business model based almost entirely on faith. And frankly, that means they should be held to a higher standards.”

They are so ironic and so right—far right.” Christianity built a business model based almost entirely on faith*. And frankly, that means they should be held to a higher standard.” But they don’t of themselves to that standard at all. Every year, another four or 500 pastors and professional Christians make it into the news for sex crimes against children, often against women, occasionally against men. We hear every year about Christian financial scandals. Entire denominations have been investigated, weighed in the balance, and found wanting. They bear false witness routinely, lying, reviling, and slandering innocent people on a regular basis, when they’re not busy doing the same to their own membership. They support the worst, most incompetent, most adulterous, fornicatingly stoopid lying sack of shit that ever disgraced public office. They even shop at Walmart on Sundays.

I’ve said it before and I’m just going to have to say it again. They are not merely hypocritical. By their own very shallow standards, they are deeply corrupt.

*and grifting for dollars.

Just because sometimes I feel like total sarcasm should prevail and because I have always been a skeptic, how do you build a fast food business based on faith? Does that mean customers should have faith the food won't hurt their bodies? Or have faith the chick they're eating is real and not some drummed - up synthetically manufactured food? Faith!Believe! Whatever.

Expand full comment
Bensnewlogin's avatar

They build it on faith because that’s how they sell their product— to other believers. Building their business on faith is the apologetics of fast food. It’s only there to convince the believers. No one else cares.

Well, to be accurate, I do care. If someone goes out of their to let me know that they are believers, it is very likely that I will not want to give them my money.

JFC!! Does this guy even listen to himself? Words have meaning. What the eff is wrong with equity? Or inclusion? Or diversity, in this so called melting pot of a nation? I know that the droolers and knuckle-draggers don't understand these concepts but everyone else should understand the validity and value of these attributes.

Ever since Trump darkened the White House, the entire concept of DEI has become one of the right's new official thought crimes. Just as being "woke" is the worst thing in the world to them. And as you'll recall, being "woke" was once thought of as a GOOD thing. All it meant was to be aware of racial inequality and acting towards making the world a better place for EVERYONE, not just straight white Christians.

Well as we all know, those kinds of ideas are an existential crisis for these fucking HIGHLY intolerant people. And intolerance of others is now official US Government policy.

DEI means white guys have to actually work to get jobs, raises, and promotions. They can’t hide their mediocrity behind their white peepee when the people they used to oppress by making them work three times harder and six times better show up and do their base level. Look at the military, Kegsbreath is in charge, he got rid of all the women and minorities in the highest leadership roles, and put his toadies in, they can’t do fuckall anywhere near competently. The invasion and kidnapping of Meduro might have worked, but when you are working outside the law, you don’t have to do it correctly. All the activities that came before this were complete failures, Iran bombing was an expensive fireworks show with no damage, reporters invited to classified information dumps online. It’s all a shit show now.

My last few years of being a conservative bigot, I had begun to realize that it really wasn't any of my business, let alone the government's business from stopping two people in love from marrying. I was skewing away from conservatism to a more libertarian outlook. (I would later shift from libertarian to liberal.)

But I did ask my fellow bigots to give me a reason... any reason... that was secular to oppose same-sex marriage. I begged them for just one reason. Something my intellect could seize on and say, "See! I'm rational! Not a religious bigot!"

I never got one.

Basically it always broke down to "God said so! And it's yucky!" or "It's yucky!" or "I don't want to think about two handsome naked men... LALALALALA... can't hear you... "

Gay marriage doesn't impact opposite sex unions. It didn't bring about the fall of the Republic, Christian nationalist bigots are doing that. It hasn't impacted my straight ass life one tiny bit other than I know that some of my neighbors are happier now and that's nice. Life is short. People should be free to pursue happiness as long as it doesn't hurt other folks.

So congratulations, Dougie and Toby, may you always be as happy together as you are now.

Perfect dissection of manufactured outrage. The progression from "one franchise congratulates one couple" to "DEI is destroying the company" is such a microcosm of how culture war economics works nowdays. What's wild is how fragile the whole apparatus is, they need constant fresh grievances to stay relevant and this barely qualfied as a paper cut. When the base shrinks, the performace gets more extreme but less persuasive.

This is a great example of the simple minds that abound in Christianity. Chick-fil-A is a fast food company, not a Christian institution. Maybe it’s my cynicism, but after working in workplace/HQ design for a number of years and getting a firsthand look into the inner workings of these companies and how they treat their employees, my conclusion is that they are all generally the same. Some have no shame (Walmart) and others like Google and the likes tried to pay their employees with free snacks instead of dollar bills. Look at this cool design. Don’t you want to stay here after hours and keep working instead of spending time with your family?
