As it always is with these groups, they begin by drawing their conclusions, then work backwards looking for validation. They have this in common with young earth creationists. Evidently that whole prohibition against lying in the Ten Commandments does not apply to people lying for Jesus. I am beyond sick of the people who believe their religion and/or politics trump science. Thousands perished as a direct result of that mentality during the Covid-19 pandemic.
They have such commonality with YECs because many of them are YECs. It us the lack of critical thinking skills coupled with the appeal to authority (and that authority must toe the line of their dogma) that makes it next to impossible to get through to them.
There’s even a book called Liars for Jesus that documents just how much these religious extremist are conniving, one way the other to undermine are freedoms.
Liars For Jesus: The Religious Right's Alternate Version of American History, Vol. 1
The thing they value far more than anything Jesus supposedly said, is the authoritarianism of the institutional church they would love to impose on everyone. Mere freedom of religion is never enough for people like this. They are driven to control others.
Seems “friendly” atheist might want to burn those whose opinions differ re: the trans issue. It’s not a religious issue at the end of the day as we all know. I’m not saying I agree with the so-called scam org, although I wonder; did they mention Jesus at all or anything religious in their statement? I’ll read it and make up my own mind TYVM.
During my brush with religion, I saw several churches fall apart over doctrinal schisms. The love they stabbed each other in the back with was both phenomenal and revealing.
Here we go again. A bunch of anti-trans idiots who think they can put one over on us decides to do a public thing in the service of their bigotry. Of course, their whole ploy is based on an appeal and argument from authority. The obvious problem is that there is NO BASIS for their claimed "authority."
What needs to happen now is for the American Academy of Pediatrics to land on them with both feet, denouncing the ACP for the bogus organization that it is, while at the same time citing those multiple studies which support trans care.
Ever since the emergence of Donald Trump, there has been a move by some groups (mostly from people with an (R) next to their name!) to using flat-out lies to bolster their position in society. This ACP crap is one of too many such incidents, and it and others like it need to be confronted as soon as they come out of the woodwork.
The people who need to hear the truth never will. Scientific studies are "boring", especially when there are dozens of them that say the same thing. "Fare* and Balanced" won't even bring them up. They'll play the ACP as the few 'brave doctors' fighting the 'political pressure' on the AAP, etc by all these 'radical feminists' who want to chop the penises off little boys. While completely ignoring the actual mutilation of little boys penises that goes on every day in this country. (Once again transboys don't count)
I saw a platform question on the Republican primary ballot in ‘22, I think, about the subject and they were worried about boys getting their penises chopped off. And puberty blockers. If it hadn’t been for that last part, I might have believed that they were misguidedly actually trying to protect children, but they made it clear they just want to hurt trans kids.
For some reason, it’s never infant genital mutilation they are worried about, despite no scientific evidence whatsoever to recommend it, much evidence against it, and it being always done against the consent and wishes of the child.
Apparently, intentionally harming children for the sake of it is good, rarely unintentionally harming almost adults — can be tried as an adult, can enlist, in some countries can serve during wartime — by giving in to their strong demand for treatment is beyond the pale.
It's like the hate group in the UK that publishes with that company, that does open publishing (they will publish anything.) Then the haters, use those non-peer reviewed papers, to claim validity. TERFs in the states WaPo comments particularly (there is a hate TERF that always has some version of "Adult human female in their name). frequently use them as sources as well. None of them know how to do research properly it seems. I just read some of their crap and though, it's weird that this small group keep citing this bunch of studies, so I googled and found out they are fake.
I think the questions that always have to be asked are: 1) is the paper peer-reviewed and 2) if so, BY WHAT GROUP? I would bet that most "questionable" papers either aren't at all or reviewed by personnel friendly to their POV.
It has effected too many in my country too. The worst one I personally knew, moved to Floriduh one month before C19 struck. One common friend told me they refused to get vaccinated. And got horrible sick.
So basically, the Liberty U Alumni Association has rebranded itself ACP.
Conservatives have grown so accustomed to believing anything they read on the internet, they got pantsed by some guy who calls himself 'a professional shitposter' IN HIS FB BIO just this week when he posted that *his cousin* was a juror on Trump's hush money trial and told him the verdict would be guilty before the verdict was handed down. Took about 10 minutes to debunk that crapola. Normal people follow the old maxim "once burned, twice shy", but not this lot. They just keep sticking their hands in the flame thinking this time they won't get burned. Ya can't fix stupid. Or willfully ignorant.
If you're convinced you cannot be wrong, than if anyone agreeing with you proves to be a problem, the problem must lie with them personally, not with the message.
Trump's Fox Business girlfriend, Maria Bartiromo was still pushing that junk story this morning. To think that woman was ever considered a serious journalist......
She was molded to pretend to be a real journalist. With all her lines written for her in the beginning by ...Roger Ailes. He then left to go found Fox News, and she followed her (so-called) friend) there. That's how awful she is, and always has been. She is married to Jonathan Steinberg, a billionaire hedge fund manager, since 1999,
"Steinberg is the co-founder of WisdomTree Investments, and his net worth is estimated to be $3.2 billion."
Hell, you can go to a uniform store and BUY a lab coat. Nobody's going to check your credentials. A couple pens in the pocket and booyah, you're equipped to bloviate on Science!
This is getting bad, folks. These false 'experts' are finding ways to get clicks. Real expertise is complicated and a certain part of the polity wants simplistic and judgemental answers. In just a very few years they have successfully demonized a small minority and it has spread throughout social media. There is a good chance that this month the Supremes (at least 6 of them)) will outlaw medical abortion by removing access to the drugs by invoking the Comstock Act and other remedies which they will pull out of their collective asses. They could effectively kill birth control at the same time. Mission accomplished! Listen to tRump and his happy band of fascists. They really are saying the quiet part out loud. We should believe them.
They all 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 it's bullshit. The thinnest veneer of legitimacy is all this kind of propaganda needs. As long as the bullshit wears that lab coat and has that official-looking seal, that will be good enough to give it purchase on the debate stage... because facts don't matter when there's hate to be spread.
Shermer knows it's bullshit. He's a racist, a transphobe, and a credibly-accused rapist, but he's not 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘱𝘪𝘥. The man is capable of doing five seconds of Google-fu to check the organization's bona fides. He's in on the gag, and he's platforming them anyway- because he's a bigot, and facts don't matter when there's hate to be spread.
Musk knows it's bullshit. He's a shallow-as-a-vaguely-damp-sidewalk puddle of narcissistic attention-seeking ego, but he's not stupid. Well, not 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 stupid, anyway. One of his children is trans, for fuck's sake. She disowned his bigoted ass, and he's been getting more and more vocal in his transphobia ever since. He knows it's bullshit, but he's a vindictive bigot and facts don't matter when there's hate to be spread.
The Catholic News Agency knows it's bullshit. I mean, their name should be enough of a giveaway, but anyone who shills for the Roman Catholic Church is up to their neck in playing CYA for people who've raped countless children and murdered whole civilizations- they know bullshit when they see it, because their whole job is to shovel it for some of the worst assholes the Earth has to offer. Facts don't matter; there's hate to be spread.
All of the legislators who've used the American College of Pediatricians' propaganda as an excuse to criminalize being trans know it's bullshit. They've been confronted with the facts countless times, loudly, publicly, by the actual experts, on the record, sitting in the legislature before all their peers and throngs of protestors. They don't care. The facts don't matter. There's hate to be spread.
A lack of exposure to facts and evidence is 𝘯𝘰𝘵 the reason why any of these fuckers are spreading ACP's lies. No public figure has an excuse for ignorance anymore; fact-checking propaganda has never been easier in all of human history, and anyone with a wide enough platform to be a household name certainly has the resources to do so (𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘺 the hundred-billionaire fucker who owns the media platform the bullshit is spreading on). They're simply choosing to disregard the facts, because they hate trans people, and that hate matters more to them than facts ever will.
They have also—intentionally, I suspect—co-opted or rather pirated the initials of the American College of Physicians, a highly respected scientific organization of Internal Medicine specialists (of which I'm a member). Please, never use "ACP" when discussing this group. Maybe "ACPedo" would be more accurate, as I always suspect people harboring these beliefs are really trying to suppress their own sexual proclivities.
You make an excellent point. The only reason to be as obsessed with pedophiles, is if you are a victim, or a practitioner. Everyone else prefers not to dwell on something so basically evil.
The ACP requires prospective members to accept a certain set of ideologies:
Promote abstinence-only sex education -- What the hell does that have to do with pediatrics?
Oppose same-sex marriage -- What the hell does that have to do with pediatrics?
Reject vaccine mandates -- What the hell does that have to do with pediatrics?
Link homosexuality with pedophilia -- Not supported by any credible data. Most perps are heterosexual, and just like adult rape, it's not about sex, it's about dominance and power.
Support gay conversion “therapy” -- Utter quackery. Nothing to do with pediatrics. Nothing to do with psychotherapy either.
Claim transgender identities are a mental illness -- Oh, so now they're psychologists and psychiatrists? No, they're not. Leave mental illness definitions up to the American Psychiatric Association, and stop LYING.
Your daughter has to be as pure as un-driven snow until her wedding night, but her future husband has to learn the “arts of the goddess Venus” from a professional woman, so that they can make a baby on their wedding night and every 12 months thereafter, to raise an entire baseball team of Christian evangelists, whether she wants to or not.
And if all she does is lie there and wonder “When will this be over and what IS all the fuss about,” then the husband can go out and find another professional woman (or man) to raise his…uh…spirits….
Literally. Many died of diarrhea, dehydrated and starved of nutrients by amoebas easily treated today. Many died of stomach cancer because smoking was one of the few reliable methods of preserving food. Today it is very rare.
I came of age in an age of cinematic green sunsets, and little pieces of glitter floating in the air. I remember soot collecting in little eddies in midsummer. Snow turned a dirty gray in a few hours. The next time you see snow that is still white several days later, thank Tricky Dicky and the EPA he started. Talk about irony...
"What needs to happen now is for the American Academy of Pediatrics to land on them with both feet, denouncing the ACP for the bogus organization that it is, while at the same time citing those multiple studies which support trans care." Troublesh00ter
What we also need is the DOJ to investigate illegitimate groups that take on the persona of legitimate professional organizations. They are disseminating information that will cause harm to many innocent people.
Lying is legal. Their actual patients might be able to sue for malpractice, but the people who aren't paying them and will be harmed by their lies, probably can't. Since they are actually doctors you can't prosecute them for fraud. I don't think the DOJ can do anything.
Sure lying is free speech ... but so are the consequences of lying. My attitude about situations like this hasn't varied in years: COUNTER-PUNCH. Do it as soon as the lie comes out, and substantiate your position with facts and evidence. The hardcore believers won't listen, but they aren't your audience.
The average Joe onlooker and the general public ARE.
I disagree. There IS an audience out there, as surely as their is for the likes of Aron Ra, Matt Dillahunty, and Seth Andrews, when it comes to the issue of atheism and the lies the Religious Reich wants to tell about US. Will EVERYONE hear? Of course not. But there are those who do hear.
Yes a few hear and maybe even believe, but even lumped in with the apatheists, that doesn’t even reach a third of the population. How many states still have laws on the books banning atheists from holding office? One SCOTUS ruling and many of us are disenfranchised.
It’s too late for the truth to banish the darkness. Hopefully we’ll come out the other side eventually, but we’re headed into the darkness. The candle is guttering.
Oh I do agree, Troublesh00ter If we in the LGBTQI+ community took that attitude 60 years ago, we would not have the civil rights we do have today; it also gives us hope to keep fighting for all our rights, everyone rights and now, our democracy.
"ACPeds has been listed as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center for pushing "anti-LGBTQ junk science".[3] A number of mainstream researchers, including the director of the US National Institutes of Health, have accused ACPeds of misusing or mischaracterizing their work to advance ACPeds' political agenda.[9][10]"
I feel that the doj or the real American Academy of Pediatrics does potentially have a case here - this is very similar to New York AG Letitia James suing the fake crisis pregnancy centers for their claim that a person can reverse a medical abortion. Which is completely fake science.
Even if these cases do not ultimately win, it still starts to charter a path of truth and bring to light all of the lies and propaganda of these anti-everything groups.
Well, does the lady in a lab coat believe in spiritual spouses causing endometriosis and miscarriage? Or demons pretending to be husbands? Or any number of ridiculous claims about human anatomy being manipulated by supernatural powers? I wouldn’t be surprised. They believe these defamatory lies about transgender people. How do people fall for this shit so easily? It always sounds like kids trying to say the most outlandish things in their stories to get attention.
Too many humans are stupid that's why they fall for it.
Last night on Netflix I watched a docuseries called: Don't Pick Up The Phone.
I was so angry that I had trouble sleeping last night. Through hoax phone calls to fast food restaurants ( mostly McDonald's) the hoax caller and sex predator convinced adult restaurant managers to illegal strip searches of underage and or very young naive adult females. And it didn't stop with just full nude strip searches. Not only did the ADULT restaurant managers grotesquely fail a Humanity test by COMPLYING - but these young victims didn't even know what their constitutional rights were related to illegal search....... all the victims said the same thing: they were raised to respect and obey authority and adults.
The American public education system has been so repeatedly damaged by the right wing over the decades it's no wonder those young victims didn't know their constitutional rights. I'm not sure if civics is even taught anymore (?). But obedience to authority is front and center. It was when I was in school.
Actually I am not sure if "civics and constitutional rights" per se, ever trumped obedience to authority in public schools, even before the current coordinated unrelenting attack on education, especially as relates to civic and American History. Stanley Milgram's experiments in the 60's was a horrifying example. Maybe this is something embedded in the human psyche; it's certainly not unique to the U.S.
That still does not excuse the actions of the adult restaurant managers. It never occurred to any of them to get an assistant on on other phone to call the real authorities. That people are reaching adulthood and running businesses while encumbered with such staggering stupidity and gullibility is scary.
Oh that Stella Emanuel a/k/a Dr Demon Semen! Joseph Ladapo the Florida state surgeon general, is from that same crazy organization. It's like the took medical classes to believe superstitious nonsense instead. They should all lose their licences.
I mean, I had the disgusting feeling that when the Cass Report came out in the UK, it'd inspire transphobes over here in the US as well, and, mirable dictu, here we are. Fascinating, though, how the kind of folks who've spent the last three years shouting about "know-it-all elites" and the like are so goddamn willing to be scammed by pretend authorities like this. It's only been a few days since Dr. Fauci got dragged in front of House Republicans to get yelled at for his supposed crimes against humanity, after all.
I posted the other day about Seth Andrews praising Dr. Fauci. I became aware of him during the AIDS crisis. One of the few alolies the Gay community had. Larry Kramer was his staunchest AIDS critic yet they became friends as Fauci led the fight against AIDS.
Seth just dedicated an entire podcast to Dr. Fauci, a day or so ago. I haven't listened to it (yet!), but knowing Seth, he researched the daylights out of him and presented what he found in a coherent and understandable manner.
No great surprise, since that's what Seth has been doing for the past 15 years!
I've played dress up myself. One Halloween, I went as a doctor. Lab coat, scrubs, booties, gloves, mask, head covering and a stethoscope. I'm about as much a physician as Dr. Demento,
To see what would happen when I did even the most basic internet research, I checked ACP's Wikipedia page. The very top of the page has an italicized line that reads "This article is about the socially conservative advocacy group. For the professional association of pediatricians, see American Academy of Pediatrics." In view of this, I think it safe to say that the conservatives who are pushing this didn't do their homework.
So I did more digging. There's a list of various medical organizations on the declarations website, and I started poking around looking for them. They seem to all be either incredibly tiny/dubious, very gender-affirming care critical, or have a conservative position on what I'd call a sister issue (i. e. the Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine is suing the FDA to prevent the use of the day after pill.) The list on this web page should be treated as a list of organizations willing to misrepresent themselves in order to push a specific agenda of some type as that appears to be exactly what they're doing. The worst part is the page is clearly intended to deliberately deceive the public into believing that these are reputable medical sources that have done in-depth research into the matter, not the advocacy groups they clearly are. At this point, I'm getting out of this nightmare of a rabbit hole, since I like believing that most folks are decent people most of the time; but this post took me maybe a whole 20 minutes total to 'research'.
Those who invented the American College of Pediatricians figure that if you put a "Dr." in front of your name and associate yourself with a TLA (Three-Letter Abbreviation), you are an "expert" or better, an "authority" on a given topic or field of study. What these idiots fail to understand is reflected perfectly in what you did: RESEARCH THEM.
And it turns out that the ACP is much like that Emperor of the story, because neither of them had so much as a stitch on them!
Looking to this group for objective information on transgender persons is akin to asking the GOP's position on President Biden. They have an axe to grind and should be taken no seriously than we do any advocacy group. For myself, I believe that the decision should involve the parents, child and doctors and keep government out of it.
As it always is with these groups, they begin by drawing their conclusions, then work backwards looking for validation. They have this in common with young earth creationists. Evidently that whole prohibition against lying in the Ten Commandments does not apply to people lying for Jesus. They have such commonality with YECs because many of them are YECs. It us the lack of critical thinking skills coupled with the appeal to authority (and that authority must toe the line of their dogma) that makes it next to impossible to get through to them.
They conflate their beliefs with facts. The system isn't letting me upvote anyone.
That is a real oxymoron!
There’s even a book called Liars for Jesus that documents just how much these religious extremist are conniving, one way the other to undermine are freedoms.

The nature of religion, it’s never enough, they always want more, until they destroy society, or the society stops them.
One of my favorite Bible quotes you don’t see Christians reciting, Psalm 116:11…
All men are liars. Something it got right, especially for the religious.
Some of my favorite passages are Matt 7:1-5: "Judge not lest ye be judged."
Basic human psychology: Make it a taboo and people will do it.
It's also the way to get people to do something.
Seems “friendly” atheist might want to burn those whose opinions differ re: the trans issue. It’s not a religious issue at the end of the day as we all know. If the preachers ever acquired the power they appear to dream of, they would be killing one another over doctrinal errors within a week.
I've seen it in action, schism after schism.
If anything, that process is picking up speed.
During my brush with religion, I saw several churches fall apart over doctrinal schisms. The love they stabbed each other in the back with was both phenomenal and revealing.
They are losing their grip though, and they don't like it. Parts of western Europe are effectively post-Christian.
Then "To Arms". Whatever the arms happen to be at that time.
Thank you! I'll check that out!
COVID-19 caused over a million deaths, thanks to CONVICTED FELON trump.

*Not a typo.
I regret that last line. Transboys do count, they matter and they should never forget that no matter how much the conversation focuses on transgirls.
I figured your comment referred to their position. Not yours. I know you don't think like that.
The comments I have seen it is always some old guy, worried about top surgery, they drone on about getting their breasts cut off.
I saw a platform question on the Republican primary ballot in ‘22, I think, about the subject and they were worried about boys getting their penises chopped off. And puberty blockers. X, a site run by an idiot to which idiots flock for “news”.
BHm
Can you expand on the Richard Dawkins issue? If that’s what you mean.
Thank you. What an odd claim it’s right back to telling gay people they’re not really gay they’re just heterosexuals pretending to be gay.
Heterosexuality is overrated, I find it too limiting. But good for those who are wired that way. To each their own.😉

Because they make money off of clicks and views. Controversy is good for business and any criticism of Dear Leader cuts off a part of the base.

They're simply choosing to disregard the facts, because they hate trans people, and that hate matters more to them than facts ever will.
Just going to point out the phrase "gender ideology" was coined by Catholics, specifically to attack LGBTQ issues.
BRAVO!!! Hatred is the message of jesus, the new mascot of all that is ev il in religious superstition.
The rape accusations and his paltry defense of it were the beginning of Shermer's fall from grace for me. He's a blight upon the skeptic community.
Exactly.
For the same reason I don't go to my auto mechanic or a politician for my annual gynecological or breast exam.
"Link homosexuality with pedophilia" would seem to be more of an issue for statisticians than medical doctors.
Funnily enough, there is definite proof linking religion to pedophilia.
Decades and decades and decades and decades AND DECADES AND DECADES AND DECADES AND DECADES WORTH!!!
They are said to number around 200 and very few are pediatricians, most are some kind of medical worker, not even doctors, mostly techs and such.
Yeah, but that abstinence thing really means:
Your daughter has to be as pure as un-driven snow until her wedding night, but her future husband has to learn the “arts of the goddess Venus” from a professional woman, so that they can make a baby on their wedding night and every 12 months thereafter, to raise an entire baseball team of Christian evangelists, whether she wants to or not.
And if all she does is lie there and wonder “When will this be over and what IS all the fuss about,” then the husband can go out and find another professional woman (or man) to raise his…uh…spirits….
Our pediatrician has never suggested any of this. Ideology has no place in state, schools, or medicine, but it sure as hell snuck in.
These will probably be the doctors forced birth babies can expect. :(
Or drinking water.
Or eating food.
Literally. Many died of diarrhea, dehydrated and starved of nutrients by amoebas easily treated today. Many died of stomach cancer because smoking was one of the few reliable methods of preserving food. Today it is very rare.
I wanted to say “breathing air” but it’s not that much better now than it was back then…
I came of age in an age of cinematic green sunsets, and little pieces of glitter floating in the air. I remember soot collecting in little eddies in midsummer. Snow turned a dirty gray in a few hours. The next time you see snow that is still white several days later, thank Tricky Dicky and the EPA he started. Talk about irony...
Or working.

Joe onlooker is listening to Fox News and they’re telling him that ACPed is the brave people fighting the woke agenda that has taken over the AAP.
Counter-punching only works if you’re heard and we’re not.
And they make it worth the effort.
I have this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that you're right.
Oh I do agree, Troublesh00ter If we in the LGBTQI+ community took that attitude 60 years ago, we would not have the civil rights we do have today; it also gives us hope to keep fighting for all our rights, everyone rights and now, our democracy.
I got the impression from the article that they were not physicians. Think I'll do a little research.
Please do , and let us know what you find out!
Most are not they are mostly medical techs and there are only about 200 according t SPLC.
Thanks for this Julie.
Thanks for the citation! 👍
I just got my umpteenth jab on Friday and keys still don’t stick to my face.
I got the latest COVID vaccine to combat FLiRT. I get Unlimited 5G wherever I go. People use me for a hotspot.
Damn it, I meant combat. Not covert. It's what I get for listening to punk rock while I type.
Lol. I that’s what I got. Someone else asked me jokingly if I was a 5G hotspot.
But was it with both hands?
Oh that Stella Emanuel a/k/a Dr Demon Semen! Joseph Ladapo the Florida state surgeon general, is from that same crazy organization. It's like the took medical classes to believe superstitious nonsense instead. They should all lose their licences.
"Medical" group that is itself based on a sham (Christianity). How could they be anything other than a sham?
Fauci vs. mtg.

Are we SURE about that second line item? 😁
I've played dress up myself. One Halloween, I went as a doctor. Lab coat, scrubs, booties, gloves, mask, head covering and a stethoscope. I'm about as much a physician as Dr. Demento,
They're available at any uniform store, or there's always Amazon. I had one for a time, for an actually legitimate reason.
Which should be illegal.
RationalWiki blasts the American College of Pediatricians
https://rationalwiki.org/wiki/American_College_of_Pediatricians
Rational Wiki is a fucking National Treasure!
Indeed they are.
RFK Jr. just won a coveted endorsement from the American College of Pediatricians. Impressive!
I detect a hint of sarcasm. :)
