It’s all theater with Greg Abbott. He rolls from one stunt to the next with cruelty his only goal. Always served up with his big sloppy smile. Among other things, Abbott blew off meeting with the Uvalde parents after their children were massacred to attend a Republican fund raiser. He is pure evil, on wheels.

Len Koz's avatar

Can we leave him alone at the bottom of a long staircase with a locked door his only other option?

Lynn Veit's avatar

He'd just levitate up the staircase and summon the rest of the daleks into battle.

Len's avatar

That’s an insult to daleks.

Sallyfemina's avatar

It is, but it made me snort.

Door at the top should have the knob/push bar set high... revealing only another long staircase to the ground.

(I've used a chair in my day sometimes)

He's the kind of disabled person who would gleefully dismantle the ADA because he knows he'll always have servants to carry him if the wheelchair ramps go away.

Somebody, I can't remember who, used to refer to him as "Hot Wheels Abbott."

Jasmine Crockett did a few months ago and caught shit for it from Pubs. As I recall, her retort was “everyone calls him that” or something similar.

Meanwhile, those same Pubs sit in stone silence when Orangey calls women of color “Low IQ'‘ (translation: “Ni**er”).

Just wait until December rolls around. How many Christmas celebrations occur on public property? Will they get the "war on Eid" treatment?

Joe King's avatar

Oh, boy. That sounds like fun!

Michael Donahoe's avatar

They certainly should

bonk's avatar

Especially with the "war on Christmas" crowd. How many of them would openly welcome someone who tells them they don't recognize Xmas as the day of "the birth of Christ" , doesn't believe in any of that stuff. But would like to participate.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Christian persecution in the USA. And as has EVER been the case, it is the Christians doing the persecuting.

oraxx's avatar

The evangelicals constantly claim they're being persecuted any time they are prevented from forcing their religion on others. They would also be the first people to persecute others if given the chance.

Stephen Brady's avatar

The problem with christofascists is they always believe they have an innate, god-given right to do whatever it is they want to do.

Maltnothops's avatar

“…. if given the chance.”

As we’ve seen over and over again.

Michael Donahoe's avatar

Sadly, very true. The arrogancy of Christianity, thinking there is only one religion that is right.

NOGODZ20's avatar

A religion with 45,000 different sects claiming to be the right one.

Michael Donahoe's avatar

And usually each one of those 45,000 think they are the right one.

NOGODZ20's avatar

Yup. That's what I meant.

Occasionally, I attend my family's very fundy church and usually cringe at the arrogance of their certainty that they and they alone have the purest doctrine. On a recent Sunday morning service, the pastor put the Nicene Creed up on the screen and said it was good sometimes to affirm our common faith. I thought that a bit out of character....only those dodgy folk in the CofE church round the corner, said that every week. I observed that the phrase, 'I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church,' had been changed to 'one worldwide church.' I'm guessing that some of those sheeple present, might not want the word 'catholic' to pass their lips and some might really think they would be endorsing heresy if it did! As you say, I'm sure they believe theirs is one of the very very few among 45,000 brands of fundyism to have god's approval.

David Graf's avatar

The phrase "one holy catholic and apostolic church" is associated with Roman Catholicism in the minds of many though it doesn't actually mean that once you parse it out. Using "one worldwide church" makes it easier for others to recognize that there is not just one group which has a monopoly on being Christian.

Matilda's avatar

Nah, mate,I know these people, catholic=heretical to them....and every other one of those 45000+denominations is heretical too unless it believes exactly as they do.....I mean, to them, jesus says you gotta be homophobic and KJV only too or you'll never make it through those pearly gates.

Brianna Amore's avatar

And now they want to set up a taxpayer-funded hotline that repeats on loop "There is no church and state separation. There is no church and state separation."

Troublesh00ter's avatar

Further Thought: It's pretty obvious that there are Christians out there who think that they are the ONLY GAME IN TOWN, and any other belief system is either beneath their notice or worthy only of derision. I don't know how we do it, but one way or another, such Christians need to learn that THERE ARE OTHER BELIEFS OUT THERE, that they have earned NO exclusive rights to public spaces, and they can learn to live and let live.

Stipulated: not an easy task. Still needs to happen, though.

Joe King's avatar

They have been indoctrinated to believe the false dichotomy that there is only "Christian" and "Satanic". That leads them to the belief that religious freedom is only for "legitimate" religions, meaning recognized denominations of Christianity. The only reason they tolerate Judaism is because they don't like being called Nazis, and they think Nazi is just a synonym for anti-semite.

John Smith's avatar

The MAGAS only accept Judaism in public, if you were to talk to the right wingers in private I guarantee the rednecks would be very antisemitic. See Musk giving Nazi salute, to what her face blaming Jewish space lasers, etc as examples of Christian fascist true feelings toward Jews! The rednecks only care about the Jews as long as the Jews fulfill their role in the Christian end times fantasy. After that, the Jews are expected to convert to Christianity, if not the Jews will be killed and sent to hell with the rest of us!

Len Koz's avatar

"I'm sorry. I'm afraid the Jews were right."

https://youtu.be/VrwIs10XvKA?t=210

John Smith's avatar

I posted the same video on the last thread of Toby the devil! GMTA!

Ethereal Fairy's avatar

Ah the Billy Graham school of anti-semitism, like when they listened to the tapes looking for evidence during Watergate (If I recall correctly) Graham is on a hot mic saying the Jews have no idea how much he loathes them, because he is nice to their faces. And it went downhill from there.

Joan the Dork's avatar

And the moment they think they can get away with it, they'll jettison the front end of that "Judeo-Christian" hyphenate so fast it'll give right-wing Jews whiplash.

David Graf's avatar

Well, the Jews would tell you that toleration is not something which they can count on when it comes to Christians.

David Graf's avatar

From my perspective, Christianity is the truth and all other religions or schools of though are found wanting. That doesn't mean that others shouldn't be free to live by their own beliefs.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

And there is the problem, David. Which Christianity are you talking about? Because unless you can answer that question, you are no better than the people who say that their religion is the truth, and that all other versions of Christianity are found wanting.

The difference between you and them is you actually care about others.

David Graf's avatar

Paul wrote that if you believe in Jesus as your Lord and acknowledge that he rose from the dead then you will be saved. That's it. We can argue over church structure and various doctrines and practices but we are held together by our faith in Jesus. I think of what Lewis wrote about when he talked about the church consisting of all believers in contrast to the visible church consisting of denominations and religious hierarchies. That's why I can disagree with a member of the RCC on a lot of things and still know that person is a believer if their faith is more than just cultural. Lastly, thank you for the compliment.

Maltnothops's avatar

“… we are held together by our faith in Jesus.”

Reading the opinion columns and comments at Christian Post strongly suggests that such is not the case.

David Graf's avatar

I suspect a lot of the CP posters are in for a surprise in the hereafter. Hopefully, I won't be one of them. :-)

John Smith's avatar

Of course, that is only your OPINION, that still not make it an actual “TRUTH “!

David Graf's avatar

Whenever you go beyond statements like water boils at sea level at 100 degrees Celsius then we're moving beyond truth/facts (your choice) to opinions based upon our understanding. But, you are right. Just because I believe something does not in itself make it an actual truth which all are bound to acknowledge.

Die Anyway's avatar

> "...THERE ARE OTHER BELIEFS OUT THERE"

Yes there are, but there shouldn't be. Christianity is real and True™ while those others are fake and false. So, Christianity deserves special rights. Plus, Muslims are going to Hell and Christians are just trying to save them from eternal torture. See! Christians are the good guys here.

David Graf's avatar

This is the same kind of thinking which justified persecutions and killings of those who disagreed with Christianity. Of course, it completely contradicted Paul's statement that we do not use the "weapons of this world" to fight our spiritual battles but many in the pursuit of power were willing to ignore Paul just as they ignored Jesus' command to love others.

Bensnewlogin's avatar

Paul was also willing to judge others and consign people to hell.

Jesus had a different opinion.

David Graf's avatar

If you take the texts as they are, Jesus had a lot to say about Hell and the final judgment. I don't see the dichotomy between God's love and judgment. Some emphasize one attribute over the other.

Kay-El's avatar

So God can still love you and still condemn you to hell? Who would want/need that kind of “love”? 🤔

John Smith's avatar

The kind that an abusive partner would give someone!

David Graf's avatar

Yes. If you decide to go your own way in rebellion.

NOGODZ20's avatar

And at the same time, Christians can't understand why they are so disliked.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

This is what happens when people live in a bubble. Past time said bubble was POPPED.

Claudia's avatar

Warning - this is completely, utterly OT, it is just that your comment reminded me of this article from last Sunday. About 'popping' ...., it's a bit of fun.

:-)

https://substack.com/@mariannejennings/p-196798782

David Graf's avatar

People enjoy living in bubbles. It's human nature but reality bites in the end.

David Graf's avatar

Why are you surprised? If you live in an environment where most others live and think the same way you do then of course it's hard to understand why some would dislike you. After all, shouldn't everyone be like me. /s

Lynn Veit's avatar

But they want to be the ones deciding who gets to live and let live.

Troublesh00ter's avatar

You noticed that too, did you? 😝

Val Uptuous NotAgain's avatar

I’m guess if Muslims can’t rent a public pool for a one time celebration then churches can’t rent public schools on Sundays to hold services. Right? Right?!

No, because of course it’s double standards all the way down.

The Christian Nazionalists have a very flawed understanding of the First Amendment's religion clauses. They think that those clauses give them the right to impose their religious beliefs on everyone via the Free Exercise Clause, but everyone else must defer to them via the Establishment Clause. That's why they think that a private, Christians only event is perfectly ok, because Muslims would be welcome to attend and convert, but a private, Muslim only event is discriminatory, even when Christians are welcome to simply learn about Islam.

Old Man Shadow's avatar

Considering how often I attended youth functions in churches that required modest attire from women, including beach days and summer camp pools and how much everyone was blasted with purity culture bullshit every Sunday, I did not expect Christians to object to a modest dress code requirement as a fundamental infringement on their rights.

Okay, Texas heathens, you heard it... Christians are cool with bikinis and speedos at their church events. Have fun.

At an all-inclusive holiday hotel with g/kids, we allowed 8yo Sam to go to the buffet alone to choose his food, saying he was now old enough to do that sensibly.
