Another sexual predator who got away with it for far too long by hiding behind his Bible and/or clerical collar. You can only wonder how may egregious sexual predators never got caught because civil and religious authorities all lined up to protect the preachers. She had to wait far too long for justice, but if there is an upside here it is that victims like her are now being listened to and not persecuted for threatening a preacher's good name.

And he will continue to get away with it. If he serves the full 12 years, he will still be near retirement age with no job skills and no money, but that won't stop him from getting on the Public Apology to the Ceiling circuit and raking in the cash as a televangelist.

Here's a question: Does Pennsylvania have a protocol for labeling someone like Fenton as a sexual predator, and if so, is he being declared as such by the court that convicted him?

THEY DAMNED WELL SHOULD!

Where was the biblical god when Sarah Carr was dragged through hell for years by one of his spokesman? Assuming he exsts, did he want this to happen?

Yet Christians will tell you that religion, whatever its shortcomings, at least instills morality. I give that lie a hearty guffaw before spitting in the face of anyone uttering it.

Though, I don’t agree his sentence will be enough to protect other children from him, and we have no idea what he has done in Australia, if it brings Sarah comfort and closure, I’m satisfied.

About #@(* time!

I think what frightens me the most about Sarah's story is I very well know that I could have easily been the same. This system of teaching little girls obedience from the cradle then insisting they need to deny men/boys intercourse until marriage is working as intended; churches have had 𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑠 to address this problem and exactly zip has been done about it. I got lucky, and I know that my parents probably would not have put a stop to anything such a predator did nor would I have likely complained at the age of 14. Sarah's courage and strength coming forward with her story is remarkable, and I am delighted to hear her attacker is finally having to deal with at least some of the consequences of his actions.

Sarah. Hold your head high and have faith and belief in yourself. Look at the courage you found within yourself to come forward in spite of the training you had to be subdued. And look at what you are accomplishing for others. If your thoughts bring you down when you think of your past and the way the abuse occurred remember who you are now. And say it to yourself. Look in the mirror and talk to yourself. You have my respect and that of other commenters here.

“She now believed that if God spoke to you about someone else, it needed to resonate with what the Lord told the other person. If there were mixed signals, someone wasn’t getting the right message.“

I’m sure that sounds good to her, whatever she needs to get along.

But we all know that in a situation like this who is getting the wrong message from god will always be the woman or child, you know, the victim. It still doesn’t protect girls in the church from men like him. It would have done nothing for her sister, her parents thought it was right, the preacher was able to be convinced it was right, so it happened despite it being complete crap.

FINALLY. After abusing Sarah Carr systematically, then MARRYING HER (avec blessing of his church!!!), emigrating to Australia, and being extradited back to the US to face the music, this bastard is finally getting his comeuppance. Frankly, it's a pity that Fred Hoover isn't around to get his as well, since he's easily culpable for enabling the relationship between Fenton and Carr. I shouldn't wonder that a civil suit might lie between Carr and that church.

And this is just ONE INSTANCE. How many other women have been violated by so-called "holy men," and how many boys and youths, for that matter? Crimes like this deserve far more exposure than they get, and sadly, It's going to take more than a blog entry from Hemant to get that done.

The fact that this was acceptable to others is what disturbs me the most. It was made acceptable by repeating the crap, time after time, after time, that has made me understand "say it enough and people will believe it". That isn't in the Bible. No one has a direct line to this god that they believe in. It's just made up shit. I hope Sarah can move forward without any of the burden she's carried for so long. I'm sorry for any woman of any religious sect who sees herself as "less" when it comes to men. And sorry that Sarah had to go through this to come to the conclusion that religion did her no godly favors

All designations are true descriptions of who they are and how they act. A redneck would be very upset with my unflattering opinion about their dear leader and company. My, my so quiet here! Where are all the posters from the last article that were so concern about protecting women and children from transgender people. I will tell you; those posters (transphobia posters) won’t be here, because they don’t really care about protecting women and children; they (transphobia posters) just use that excuse to attack and degrade transgender people. Hypocrisy is their motto.

This pastor abuse the Sarah Carr, yet it’s non believers that are immoral. I am starting to wonder if Christianity is a new definition for child abuse. The pastor would get a longer prison sentence if he wouldn’t be a Christian (My bets are he will not serve his full sentence because of Christian privilege). This pastor should get a least 40 years without any chance of parole, but then I am just an atheist.

This exactly why I hate homeschooling. Germany does not allow homeschooling, except in extreme circumstances, such as medical conditions. Yes there are good homeschooling programs, but way too many "programs" are excuses for children to endure physical, and/or mental, and/or educational abuse.

The other day I read about a mother who is "homeschooling"; her daughter is over five years old and can't tie her shoes. "She's just not interested in learning," is the Mother's excuse. There's the "high school graduate" who couldn't write her name. There was a "homeschooling" family in my neighborhood where the kids spent hours outside playing every day. I've read many other similar stories.

"Homeschooling" families need much more oversight from the local school and other authorities. If you want to travel with your children, that's one thing, but using "homeschooling" without being sure the children are actually schooled hurts the child, and shouldn't happen.

It's bound to get worse. There will be more parents taking their kids out of public schools that are being starved for resources. Then there is the problem of administrators, teachers, and other parents who think bullying is okay. A lack of resources for students with learning and physical challenges. Then there are the parents afraid of "woke" schools that might teach their kids the USA isn't perfect, nor is it "God's" Chosen Country.

Sarah Carr was victimized because Evangelicalism and conservative politicians created an atmosphere in which women were not trusted with decisions over their own bodies, and religious men were unaccountable. This story of her abuser's plea deal comes the same day that the Great Psycho will sign executive orders ending DEI and enshrining white Christian males as the only arbiters of fact or the law -- according to the fascists now in control. What could possibly go wrong?
